Fair use, at least in America, states that you can use some screenshots, segments of film, and images for educational and review purposes. So what's this? Does Nintendo hate fair use?

every company probably hates fair use but the trend went towards streaming your games so they started to allow people to post their media online and some haven't
a good way to look at this: you can screencap and even record current gen systems, but streaming services like hulu and netflix have DRM protection wrote right into the browsers from what i can tell, and it doesn't allow even a screen capture
game services trended towards streaming and courts say "yep", tv/movie is just as much an intellectual property and they cut and slashed those with every regulation on the books

You might be right about every company hating fair use. Frankly, I think it's disgusting. What's the point of having fair use doctrine if it gets so vague and companies can make people take down a few screenshots or videos. It's absurd. Anyway, I brought this up because I write articles on Medium about video games, and I sometimes wonder about Nintendo coming after me, even though I am making their games look good.

IP-wise, they don't see it as good promotion
i'm sure there's some data out there that suggests fair use of gaming media spurns sales, but even that's not likely to change their minds
i mean it's the RIAA vs. napster all over again. pirating media made people more inclined to then purchase said songs
that front evolved into youtube though and now youtube basically rules the joint with a little bit of spotify action

TBH, Nintendo aren't actually as bad as people make out. They only usually step in if people are making large amounts of money off of their IP, which is fair enough.
I've seen companies that attack young teens for just drawing fanart...
