Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh are serving as executive producers on the Kenji Kamiyama anime prequel to the live action films.

Kamiyama already has an impressive pedigree with his involvement in Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Blade Runner: Black Lotus, Eden of the East.

The film is described as an original anime feature, depicting "a legendary battle that helped shape Middle-earth and set the stage" for Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.

With an expected run-time of 2.5 hours, the film is expected to hit theatres in December 2024.

It's funny that you should say that, because...

The film will debut internationally December 11, and will be hitting US screens from December 13.
