I can’t remember the name of an anime film

Hi everyone, I’ve been trying to track down a film that I watched years ago (probably getting on for about 20 years) on an old website, now long gone, called Sputnik7. From what I can remember, the story centred around a hero character who was like a ninja/samurai warrior and he could transform into a bird (phoenix I think) and this happened right at the end after the final fight around a feudal looking tower. I think, although I’m not completely sure on this one, he wore something similar to Goku but he had a bird emblem on the back. I also think he maybe had a team but again I’m not 100% on this. Any help would be much appreciated

It might not be that but way back in the late 70s there was a Japanese series called Gatchaman, which was "Westernised" as Battle of the Planets, and featured the voices of Casey Kasem, famous for doing Shaggy in the original Scooby Doo, and Keye Luke, who was famous for playing the Chinese shop keeper in Gremlins.

It featured characters in birdlike costumes who could fly.

No it’s not those two unfortunately, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t sci-fi, more fantasy/historical with a bit of magic thrown in
