What do you think?

There are quite a few anime series that seem to go on for ever, but which has had the longest run?

If anybody posts the correct answer, I'll know that they looked it up, because the answer will surprise you.

I thought I knew it was detective conan but I looked it up to make sure. I was wrong.

One of the anime shows I liked on Adult Swim was Inuyasha, but there was a problem with it. You see, they started out by doing all the episodes that had been dubbed, then restart from the beginning. When they got to the point they stopped before, they'd play the new episodes they'd gotten.

And when they ran out, they did another rewind and went back to the beginning again!

Drove me crazy.

At some point, I just got lost as to where everything was and stopped watching it. I don't know if Inuyasha is the longest running anime or not, but it sure seems like it. Although come to think of it, there were a lot of Ranma 1/2 episodes too. Started off with the manga and got into the anime later.

Pokemon is very popular and has a lot of movies. Alternately, what about One Piece?

No for both I'm afraid.

Just to give you a chance, adding up all the Macross episodes including specials and spinoffs gives a total of less than 250 episodes.

Bleach totals about 375.

One Piece runs to over 1000.

But the longest running anime is ALSO the longest running animated series EVER.

One Piece doesn't even reach halfway.

I know there's a lot of Tenchi episodes, it's been running for what, over 25 years? But I don't think it tops 1000. But what about Gundam? It seems to be everywhere, so many mecha builds. That has to be it.

Gundam? Nope sorry.

I suppose I am being a little unfair. This anime has NOT aired in English speaking countries, but IS STILL airing on Japanese Network Television.

I'm going to let this run for a bit more to see if anybody else wants a shot, but I will be revealing the answer pretty soon.
