Recommendations along lines of Death Note etc

I have been asked by someone this but as I've only seen Death Note and Attack on Titan I don’t know what is along the same lines. Do any of you have any recommendations?

I've been watching anime lately, getting to know the genre, and still very new. Loved Neon Genesis Evangelion and Death Note, excited about Attack on Titan, but I'm still early in the first season. What would you recommend that's of similar tone/scope/etc?

Ajin is good
second Parayste
the God Eater anime fits the theme and is decent
They might like Code Geass
They'd like Gundam 00.

is also recommend Ajin along with knights of Cydonia (the latter is very much like evangelion.

There’s actually quite a few. I’m surprised no one mentioned Beserk.

I’m not sure why horrors are being mentioned.

Dark gritty anime seems to be the preference.
