Summary (from MAL):

When Lord El-Melloi II, the later Waver Velvet, gets asked to claim his inheritance over Adra Castle, he travels there with his apprentice Gray to do so. But they are not the only ones called that way. The will of the previous owner states that the assembled contestants—including Luviagelita Edelfelt—must compete in a game of wits to win the castle.

Expectations were rather low, but they've done really well with this show so far.

Anything specific?

The main character is Waver Velvet as an adult. I need to watch him as a boy as well. In Fate/Zero I think.

It's not necessary to know it, you can watch it without knowing it (as I do), but it's always a bonus ot know it.

Have you seen anything from the Fate series?

unoduetre Yep! I have seen the original Fate/Stay Night along with the new Unlimited Blade Works, as well as Fate/Zero, Fate/Apocrypha, and Fate/kaleid.

That's impressive. So it's definitely a series for you!

Haha, yeah. Not sure if every Fate fan would enjoy it, but I typically like detective shows, and being tied closer to Fate/Zero instead of Stay Night is definitely a plus too. It is interesting, as this show should happen almost right before Stay Night, so I am wondering if they are going to tie something in at the end. Also, I recommend watching Carnival Phantasm even though it doesn't have any plot relevance to the series (you should at least watch either Fate Stay/Night beforehand though).

unoduetre Nice! I hear Shirou makes a lot more sense in the VN version, but dated VNs are kinda hard for me to pick up (especially the ones with overlay text like Fate/Stay Night or Tsukihime).

Yeah, I wanted to check how it all started. (And by all I mean Fate, not the whole TYPE-MOON universe, I've seen Tsukihime anime and really enjoyed it.)

I think I watched half an episode of fate stay night and turned it off. Maybe I'll try again sometime.

Maybe I'll start with the best series even if it's later, then I'll be motivated to watch the rest.
