Manga and anime newcomers (and old stagers) Q&A

Post by unoduetre » 12 Aug 2018, 21:34

Are you a newcomer to the manga and anime fandom or to this section of the forum? Do you have any questions? Or maybe you're an old stager who couldn't find an answer?

Do you have problems finding interesting stuff? Do you want someone to give you a short summary of a manga or an anime? Do you want to understand what those weird "anime faces" mean? Do you want someone to explain some anime memes? Do you want to know what is the difference between a temple and a shrine? Do you want to know what yaoi and yuri is? Should you watch Boku no Pico? Do you want a sempai or want to know what this "sempai" thing is?

Ask us anything!

Lol here's a really hard question.

Why on earth is artwork by Range Murata in the Haoliners intro short?

The girl there was drawn by Range Murata.

Range Murata hasn't done much anime (if any) since Shangri-La, which is a shame, so I was encouraged by this, but I can't see anything that suggests he's working with Haoliners.

Momogari Do you know whether it's this particular girl and not just his style? Could it be a copycat? Alternatively, maybe they just hired him? :-P

The list: https://www.pseweb.com/page/english.html It seems he's still active. Maybe they hired him?

Yeah that's the most likely explanation.

Comiket 84 was in 2013.

From wikipedia: "Haoliners Animation League is a Chinese animation company based in Shanghai and established in 2013."

Does it make sense now? :-P

They're different illustration. There's one even closer to the one in the intro but I can't find it right now. Either way, I'm sure they just hired him to do some animation on one of his pictures.

That, or they just bought the character design and animated it themselves.

How "anime dances" are born? I know that some come from anime OPs, EDs, etc. Some come from AMV, meme songs etc. I assume some come from shows by VAs. Some probably come directly from music videos of the bands who originally performed the song. Some are probably from dance games etc. Some from YouTubers specialising in dancing to anime songs. What else? Do you have some interesting examples? Is there one primary source of the movements? E.g. where the movements of the Maware Setsugetsuka! dance came from? Unfortunately my knowledge of anime dances is very limited.

If you seen Caramelldansen, you've seen an anime dance taken from Popotan. And there's Tiny Little Snow Fairy Sugar, which we see a group dance move being done by some of the characters 55 seconds in.

End of Doujin Work, you see the various female characters from behind wearing their gym clothes and doing their own little dance. Although I must admit, Najimi has only one move and I think Tsuyuri got bored waiting. But the suggestion is that these are dance moves each of the characters came up with by themselves.

Later, as part of an AMV, I came across a Korean MMORPG called Yogurting, which looked like a high-tech music school setting where kids both dance and fight creatures. Never played it, but to me, there was a suggestion was you got points for doing various dance moves.

I'm thinking that most anime dances come from taking a popular move and tweaking it.

Alright, what is the anime that the rapping girl meme comes from? I saw it all over social media and it petered out before I figured it out.

Oh, no, I figured it out.
Now that I know it, I could probably find it lol

actually I can't find any of the memes. google is terrible for memes.
we need a search engine for memes.

but here's the original

I feel like that's cut a little but oh well

I had to watch the show up to that point cuz I always love rap in anime

after that point I dropped it cuz it's really not a good show lol
