Kino's Journey: then and now

Post by Momogari » 14 Dec 2017, 07:21

I haven't seen the new Kino's Journey. I saw the old one though.

For those who are watching the new one: What do you think?
For those who saw the old one: Did you like it?

Has anyone here seen the old on and is watching the new one too?

The visuals of the new series look good. I'll probably watch it eventually. I read somewhere it was just a remake, but I don't remember some of the stories I'm hearing about. I have a terrible memory in general, so maybe I simply don't remember. I remember it being an artistic episodic series with interesting and meaningful stories.

I think I like the 2003 character design better. The 2017 show looks nice, but I don't know, could it really replicate the same charm?

Watched a few of the Kino no Tabi episodes. Recently rewatched the one about the tower. Liked the AI motorcycle.

From what I see in the new trailer, they make it a little more obvious she's female, thinner limbs, wider hips, pointed chin.

You're the first one I've met who will have seen both. How do they compare?

My personal impressions:

I like the character art in the old one more. The new one is (slightly) more kawaii. In this series kawaii is only a distractor. In the old one when I saw the main character I had a feeling that she's very strong psychologically (based on how the character was presented). In the new series she's a bit more average/normal. The OP was also better in the old one.

The series is not a remake, but a sequel. So it's good to watch both. Despite some small things mentioned above, it's a good sequel in general. I can recommend it for someone who has watched the first series and wants more.

oh, it's a sequel. I thought it was a remake.

That seemed to be my impression as well though.

Sorry, I retract that. It's not really a sequel. You know it's episodic. So some episodes tell the same stories and some tell different ones. So it's still interesting to watch for a person who has seen the older one.

But almost all are different. I think 2 of them were the same so far and I've almost finished it.
