Heroic Age? If you like space drama with skyscraper sized monsters who bash through planets (and each other), it's for you. Just don't expect the mechs to do anything the entire series.

Yay, I divided the titles into 3 categories.

I have a feeling that there are still some titles missing from my list.

Can you imagine how hard it is for me to believe (I've seen only the first couple of episodes of the first SAO), that any SAO can be on the same level as Shin Sekai Yori?

Oh shit yes Showa Genroku is top 20.

I think I've overflowed it.

I need to to add Showa Genroku and Yorimoi.

And yeah Heroic Age was good. Good enough for my list? Hmm maybe top 50? Actually it can't compare to those ones I don't think. It was really good though.

Yeah. I don't actually think the first SAO was that bad, but I don't rate it anywhere on my list. The other SAOs are various shades of worse. But honestly yes SAO Alicization is at least almost as good as Shin Sekai Yori. Maybe as good.

I decided on my ride home I would change my mind about SAO Alicization. I think part of why I like it is that it's a very good hero story, and I really like hero stories. I also think SAO might in general be good at crafting stories to cater to anime fans. I'm not sure though. So to err on the side of caution of my biases, I'll merely claim it as one of the 10 best anime I've ever seen rather than one of the 5 best. It earns that spot primarily through its dramatic and very well-crafted plot plus its animation quality.

In your highest category, only Terror in Resonance.

In the next highest:

Shiki
Tatami Galaxy
Angel Beats (I didn't want to watch this. I guess I should question that now.)
Mnemosyne
Time of Eve (it's on my list to watch though)
Roujin Z (never even heard of this one)
Kakegurui
Take the X train (never heard of it)
Angel's Egg

In the rest of your list:

One Punch Man
Legend of the Galactic Heroes
Citrus
Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens
Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches
Bungou Stray Dogs
Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers (never heard of it)
Gangsta
Amagi Brilliant Park
Coppelion
Kuro Kami
Rental Magic
Hikaru no Go
Silent Möbius
Ys
Wicked City
Demon City Shinjuku
Cyber City Oedo 808
Call Me Tonight
The Mysterious Cities of Gold

Oh, I used to own Now and Then, Here and There. That was a really good one. Hmmmmm my top 50 is full though. I'll consider it.

I haven't touched any SAO media since seasons 1 and 2 of the original series.

Fucking terrible. Just a mashup of all the worst anime tropes ever for both plot and characters. I'm not sure they were crafted for anime fans but they were definitely crafted for the lowest common denominator of self-inserting weeble-deeble.

How could Fatal Bullet possibly have been worse? I mean granted it did look dumb as fuck. And what did Alicization do differently? Did they actually hire writers for that one?

If I were ranking shows just based on my preference, both SAO Alicization and Macross Delta would be in my top 5.

Macross Delta isn't even on my list because I'm too afraid of my bias for it.

I have similar thoughts about SAO to you. That's why I'm so surprised that Alicization is so high in Momo's list.

Alicization is very easily the best written of the bunch. It's also more original and I think the characters are more believable. The best part about it is the plot though.

It might still be created for anime fans, but I think they do a good job of making value for...more serious anime fans as well as for...weeble-deeble.

I don't mind anime created for anime fans. But I do, if it's an excuse for a shitty plot and crappy characters. :)

I gonna check this list now: https://www.listchallenges.com/500-esse ... ime-movies

There are probably some position I'm missing. Either I haven't seen them, I just forgot to add them or I didn't like them.
