Other than that, I do like in some anime series when characters get their own dedicated theme songs because characters need them, because more often than not, they help to show the character's personality, plus some are perfectly hilarious too

Yeah, the soundtracks when considered as soundtracks only are quite good in anime in comparison to openings, endings, lol. They often match what happens in the anime very well. Not always though. Sometimes I'd really like to listen to different music.

Hmm. The female vocal is certainly anime music. The male vocal not so. The music is only partially. Lol.

But really, I have no idea why they choose only some specific genres for anime.

Someone did a great job by putting it all together. This video (with some exceptions) is a study on what I mean by anime music. Sometimes it even sounds like ONE song and it's difficult to say when one song ends and the other begins.

Oh, Haibane Renmei, Rahxephon, GitS:SAC. All very good OPs. Shit, that makes it harder.
At any rate, Shaman King was definitely the wrong choice.
If I had to pick, I think it'd be the haibane renmei op. All the music in haibane renmei was gorgeous.

Also stumbled back to 1999 when I was looking that up. Let's see what they picked... oh yeah, GTO. Hmmm, it was good, but I might pick the Hunter X Hunger OP 1. Others may not have, but I really liked that op.
Would I pick it though? ...Oh damn, 1999 was One Piece. Fuck HxH then, the One Piece op 1 was the fucking best. Way better than GTO. Alright, alright, that's nostalgia talking. It was a great shonen op, but I guess GTO is both musically and artistically better.
Now and Then, Here and There had a better OP than GTO too I think. Mmmm, maybe not after all.
But the HxH op, listening to it again, was better for me.

I've seen Nadia. It's similar to adventure books, if you've read some. I don't think it contains a lot of the usual anime tropes, so it's maybe more like a Miyazaki film. That was my impression. It contains some elements from Captain Nemo.

Yeah, I think there is no Champloo because of Beck (although Champloo was in 2005 as well and it was better than Gaiking).

Yeah, the Toradora OP is better, but the Soul Eater OP is good as well.

Yeah, the Shaman King OP wasn't that good. I'd need to check what was in this year, but the Haibane Renmei OP was definitely better than the Shaman King OP.
