Oh, thanks. It seems they're skipping a lot of stuff. I think it might be more fruitful to read the LN. The LN seems to be good based on the fragments used in this anime. I also think this show has a problem with direction. Some moments are not as exciting as they could be. The pacing is uneven. And because they skipped so much it's also not very clear.

For example this episode could probably take like 3 episodes, if they went into all the details of his past and made the fights more exciting etc. They could take longer to build the excitement and then release it. It would be more fun this way. But the way it is directed, the excitement is not that big. You know, in some long-running shounens one fight can take many episodes, which is another extreme. But I think this show should really have more episodes. Or they should just adapt less source material at once.

I agree on this if it was following the manga rather than a LN.

While I haven't read the LN version if the used the manga more faithfully then they could have gotten to the same point in around 7 more episodes, or if the condensed the chapters less strictly then the event they set up would start around episode 7. Which means they could end the season with the end of the event. (Although the manga is only just starting it as well.)

I've started reading the manga.

The manga has been on my to read list for a while now, guess I'll just be dropping this and just reading the manga as well (eventually) since I never got past episode 1, and it only seems to go downhill.

Heh, it seems many people reached the same conclusion. IMHO, everything in this show is great besides the direction, ha ha. Unfortunately direction is pretty important.
