Usually when I think of horror, I go for Black Butler and Hell Girl.

Trinity Blood if you can find it has vampires in a steampunk-like setting. Love the flying church.

OK, here goes, easing someone into anime land after DeathNote.
Full metal alchemist brotherhood.....the second and more complete version of a fantastic story that starts as a quest and leads to one of the longest final battles I've seen in an anime that even involves practically every character you've met along the way.

Psycho Pass.....a sci-fi Utopia that is not what it seems, pretty good anime.

From the New World.....also known as Shinsekai Yori, a real slow burn of a story, another Utopia that is not what it seems.

Darker than Black....an event changes the world, leading to super powered but emotionless operatives that wil work for whoever makes them the best deal, think X-men crossed with the world of James Bond.

SteinsGate..... is a slow burn time travel, alternate world show

DrDru92 I'm going to chime in with one punch man which is full of action and is quite funny, and mob psycho 100 which is a supernatural anime with comedy thrown in, the anime style is different from your traditional anime but it definitely is worth watching. Once I'm done with that I'll make a start on twin star exorcists I think.
