My surprise didn't last too long. This actually seems fitting for her character given how the anime started. She looks cute and all but I think there's more than two instances where some real psycho bitch shows through. It could be something else, but I've met people like that, that say perfect things, completely fool everyone, and then stab you in the back the moment they think it benefits them more than keeping a relationship with you. Some psychopaths learn acting skills as a second nature because they're able to see people as resources and it's so useful as a control mechanism.

Plus it ending in an expected way would have made for a rather boring story after this point.

What I'm interested in is how his companions will handle this. Surely he'll be a blind idiot still, which will probably put him at odds with everyone supporting him.

There's certainly a lot going on that hasn't been explained yet, too.
