So, on Sunday I left all the ironmongery at home. No Hauberk. No coif. No Great helm. No gambeson or arming cap.

Then, at the Con, I met this young man who put me to shame...

...in his almost full set of steel armour.

He says he is going to be there next year as well.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. Full 11th Century Crusader set it is.

That's pretty cool looking.

I wonder how heavy that is?

I bet it's hard to move in that with it being so heavy?

It's not as heavy as you may think. He was able to move around pretty easily, other than it being a bit bulky in places.
The principle problem is heat retention. This young man was sweating buckets with it all on. Most of the time he took his helmet, coif and cap off in order to cool down.

Sounds like you need a mini air conditioner underneath.

Yes indeed. Under the armour you usually wear a padded jacket called a Gambeson. It stops the armour chaffing on your skin, but keeps you really, really warm. I couldn't tell if he was wearing one, but judging from the fact that he was wearing an Arming Cap under his coif, the probability is pretty high.

Yeah I used to have one, they aren't the greatest but they're less hackable/more secure than Windows, which is better in some ways, especially when most of social media hates me because I can't work.

#1 son came over for a visit today. He starts a new job on Monday, about 3 hrs drive away from here. Guess we won't be seeing him so often for a while.

Well, what an absolute f***up of a day. Lots planned but nothing got done after a phone call from Mrs Oji at 08.15. "I've broken down!"

I got home 5 hours later, having driven out to her location, given her "my" car to get to work, and then spent 4 hours waiting for the recovery truck.

It's December, and did I mention I'm old? Well, it could have been worse. It could have been raining.

Hopefully, it will be fixed on Friday, and life will return to normal.
