My training sword is coming on Friday! Yay!

A few years back, I bought a plastic one from somewhere for a Zorro cosplay, but I guess you'd have wanted a real one :D

I'll have to put up a photo of our collection some time.

Time to join the general rant about the state of the economy.

Got a SMS from ParcelForce saying that my sword (feder) would be delivered between 5 & 6 pm. Had to go to training. When I got back, no sword! Checked the tracking code, and the van returned to the depot at 4.30!!!!

Now I will have to wait for a re-delivery on Monday. The only trouble is I am very busy on Monday morning, and a sword won't exactly fit through the letterbox, so I will probably end up having to travel to the depot to pick it up on Tuesday. really annoying as I have Sword practice on Monday evening.

I've had the same problem with Evri, can't you arrange to have it delivered to one of the neighbours if you're not in? And pop round to collect it when you get back?

I've stopped buying from Game because of the total fail that is Evri, like when you have to send stuff back from them (as I've frequently done cos the chuffing games don't work!) they insist on using Evri for deliveries.

It's here!

Arrived 9am this morning. Just right for a practice during the day before training tonight.

it's a thin blade so it doesn't look like it was made for chopping, right?

but then again it's also a very long blade :nekothink: ...

Unlike Japanese swords that have a curved, sharp blade intended for lopping off limbs, these types of long swords are designed for piercing weak spots in armour. They are sharpened so that you can inflict cuts to the face or limbs, but they primary target is the face, armpit, crotch etc. 13th/14th Century Longsword were wider and designed for powerful slashing cuts against the partial armour of the time. Think Knights Templar, Crusades etc. Richard the Lionheart's sword was supposed to be able to break (not cut through) an iron bar.

York Winter Con tomorrow.

Sadly, circumstances have made it so that we wont be Cosplaying, but we will be fully kitted up for Leeds Super Con next Saturday.

I would've gone to the super con in Leeds but I can't do 2 cons in the same weekend so I chose Chesterfield.

General rant about Chinese eBay seller! So I checked the tracking for an item I bought 4 weeks last Thursday ago, according to the tracking, it was delivered on the 16th of January, er, no it wasn't! I contacted the seller last night, he contacted me this morning and said the Warehouse had put the wrong tracking number, and the item was in the UK as of last night, and would be delivered this week (by Wednesday I hope, I need it for a project on Thursday)

I'm sure these clowns do it on purpose because they know it's annoying.

yeah, that was my guess for it

armor being so prevalent in the western medieval world meant that you had to either go for bashing weapons like maces or stabbing weapons that poked between armor holes

japan's armor was more brittle because they had weaker/less pure iron deposits if i remember right
