So, I was talking with a fellow YouTuber about thumbnails, as I wanted to figure out if they were working in their intended fashion (I.E. standing out and "popping") and the suggestions I got were a little frustrating. Most of their advice is similar to some other advice I've heard before, which is to make something homogenous to everything else on the site. I hear a lot.of the same things in terms of color, layout, yadda yadda hey. Its the same basic shlock that every other channel does, and it means I'm just doing the exact same thing they do. If I'm just going to be the same channel doing the same shit, why should I even add to the mound? It doesn't feel special or unique. It just feels like another body on the pile. Something committee designed, for mass appeal, with zero personality. I feelthat clickbait is cringe as hell. If it is working, then the audience will most likely clap for jangly keys as much as they would for that video.

My main concern is that, at time of writing, I am extremely limited on my resources. I do not have a tablet, ergo no digital artwork. I work entirely analog, so it's pencil sketched work, and scanned to the PC for final touches. I don't color my work. It's due to a lack of experience in coloring, and at the moment, I don't have the time to practice and still meet deadlines for episode releases. Lastly, I don't have the .oney to pay someone to do these thumbnails for me. Even if I did, the turn around time would be abysmal, and I'd be late for every upload. So, my work goes up very minimalistic. But, I almost feel like that does stand out. If everyone on the site is following rigorous thumbnail tutorials, then how do any of them look any different from the rest? The sample on the instruction video was so damn generic, it made my eyes involuntarily roll.

So, I decided that I'm going to stubbornly stick to my guns and keep producing the same kind of thumbnail pictures I'm already doing. It may ruin my channel, but I don't care! If I can't play the game my own way, I will stop playing it! So, hopefully this works out. Idk... these pictures are hours of personal time and work, and thry barely see any use... but I like them. They feel personal, and unique. So, hopefully they do what they're designed to do.
