Northern Kingdom [Rune Wars] [Closed] [RFP]

OOC: Bio approval is required, submit them in the Rune Wars OOC topic

IC:
Trees danced as a strong spring breeze blew over their tops. For some, even the springs in the North were cold. Those who called the Northern Kingdom their home though, it was nice weather and time to start climbing out of their huts. The villages in the North were not as sophisticated as those to the south. However, they provided shelter, among other needs. Ramaka was once such village and it was one of the North's larger villages and a trade hub between the different people of the North. Ramaka was gone, all that remained was a black land of soot and ashes. Curiously only the village was burnt, the surrounding forest was fine.

Edge one of the Wolf people had been the task to investigate the cause. Most assumed it had something to do with the Western Empire. It was assumed only they could or would do something so mysterious. However, they were in the Eastern regions of the Northern Kingdom.

Edge decided to use Fakiur as his home base. He set up a headquarters which was nothing more than a large hut. Fakiur was a lot like Ramaka and because of Ramaka’s sudden disappearance had more business than it could handle. However, that attracted many merchants with better merchandise. Fakiur might be on its way to becoming the most important trade city in the East. The most common race in Fakiur were the Cat People, this was originally a city just for the Cat People. As a result, many homes and places of business were still in the trees. There were more on the ground now, but most of it was new construction like Edge’s HQ hut.

Edge in his investigation had discovered Ramaka was not the only village to have suffered the same occurrence, but they just weren't well known. They had virtually gone unnoticed, they're not trade hubs like Ramaka was. So far he found three others all in the East and near Ramaka, so they were only occurring in this area as far as he knew.

Edge was a Junior War Chief, which in the south meant he was a sheriff with deputies and sent out when law or investigations were needed in the vast north. He could lead the villages in the surrounding areas too. He had the lowest rank which was authorized to do so. It did mean he was an important figure in the North.

As a War Chief, he could hire help and that was exactly what he was doing, he sent out messengers to the surrounding villages to notify them he was looking for a team to investigate what happened to Ramaka. He made no mention about the other villages as Edge did not want others to know and panic as a result. The rumors were around, but there was no need to confirm they were true. He certainly wanted to stop the attacks and save the Peoples, that was his duty. His duty was more than his job it was what the Junior War Chief believed in.

A loud squeal erupted in the surrounding forest of Fakiur, an arrow finding its mark in the side of a wild boar Zane had been tracking on his way to the city. He stood up on the branch he had been kneeling on, standing around 4 and half feet tall, making him on the taller side for cat people. He lowered the hood of his light green cloak, revealing at first glance a tan human face, but his panther features immediately identify him as one of the cat folk. In his black hair laid a pair of black panther ears and sprouting from his nose were six whiskers, 3 on each side. From behind his cloak sprouted a tail covered in black fur to match his hair color. He slung his bow around himself before jumping down off the branch to the forest floor. He calmly walked up the where the boar now laid and pulled out a small dagger from his backpack along with a empty sack. He than began the process of skinning the boar for its hide and different parts of its flesh for fresh meat, storing the meat in the sack and cleaning the hide as best he could before balling it up and placing in his backpack. With the sack of meat in one hand and his other hand holding the strap of his backpack, he made his way towards the city of Fakiur to do some trading before meeting this junior war chief looking for help.

There was calm stillness in the northern jungles as the sun rose to its peak. It’s radiant rays reach out to every tree and vine forcing its nourishment on them. A glorious sight to behold for sure, if you were not one of the denizens of the northern continent. For the suns smoldering heat, or luscious lights, where an everyday occurrence that was often taken for granted. Few of the tribes in this jungle remember; this sight was one of many reasons they chose to settle here. The way the sun was embraced by the trees and flora, instead of being refracted by the glass tipped glaciers or repelled by the blankets of snow.

Although most species of the world would consider this the northern jungle, to those of the northern continent it was the smoldering forest. The northern continent was arguably the coldest natural place on the planet, at least for the average temperature of its climates. The further north you went in, the colder it became. So most of the demi-humans that lived had adapted or acclimated to the colder climates. Most developed fur while others developed thick hide or layers of fat to protect them from the ominous bite of the north. One clan from the snake demi-humans that lived there had grown tired of the chill. They decided to migrate south. It was a dangerous move as they northern continent was not yet united in defending itself. Never the less, this group of explores, warriors, and matriarchs were done with the harsh environment of the then deep north.

After many years of travel and many attempts at settlements, they war had finally reached them and chased them into the scorching forest. They had set up a camp, fearing this would be their last stand. Unbeknownst to them, the invading races were not adapt to the heat or tough terrain of the jungle. They could not move their armies through the dense and blazing foliage. So they set up camp outside the jungle, as they thought the snake people would have to try to leave in order to get food or supplies. To their dismay, the snake people never emerged from the jungle. They waiting months for them to emerge before they invades themselves had to retreat or fear facing the superior might of the united northern kingdom.

“Colubriiglisaad remembers the strength of clan. Colubriiglisaad knows clan tried to be different to progresh. Colubriiglisaad tries to different, clan see no progresh.” a shadow whispers into the forest. The darkness stirs as and seems to slither into the light at the edge of the tree line. At a slow scurry, which would be akin to a saunter for a legged creature, the figure combs the edge of the forest.

“Colubriiglisaad be cursed of shaman. Colubriiglisaad be coiled by strikers. Colubriiglisaad be rattled from nest. Colubriiglisaad just want to protect. Colubriiglisaad want efficiency. Huts blame southern science and trade. Huts blame hatchers for ways Colubriiglisaad was raised. Colubriiglisaad blames Huts for swallowing rocks. Huts sink to dark thoughts of old days.” He said as he passed the small shadow that divided the scorching forest from the rest of the northern continent.

As his pacing continued and his rantings were hissed into oblivion, two large black orbs seemed to glide down from the trees. They drifted down to land next to Colubriiglisaad. He continued to snake back and forth, seemingly so lost in his thoughts he did not notice the new presence. The large orbs seemed to be tracking his movements as they should shift once he passed by them. Fifteen minutes passed by before either Colubriiglisaad seemed to notice these peculiar floating spheres.

“Gilgamesh! Colubriiglisaad will not have great praises if Gilgamesh doesn’t listen. Colubriiglisaad said to stay. Plenty more fly-frogs in pen to enjoy.” Colubriiglisaad said as he placed his hand between the orbs. A shimmer seemed to dance in the space the snake-man’s finger had touched. It fluttered between the orbs only ripple outward moments later. This revealed a previously camouflaged frog. It was enormous, easily twice the size of Colubriiglisaad himself. Dark green skin was revealed everywhere the ripple touch, with the occasional spot of brown or black. Even when not camouflaged completely, it was still colored to watch its home in the jungle.

“Colubriiglisaad must wait. Demi-mount travels this way with words for clan. Colubriiglisaad will deliver message, save time. Needed if words have value to Huts. Maybe Colubriiglisaad will be praised.” He said, accentuating every soft or long S sound as a snake person would do.

“Gilgamesh doesn’t even have mounter. What Gilgamesh conspire? Hm?” His fingers tapped the giant frog’s head, a low crackling seemed to indicate the frog was pleased. It seemed hesitant, as if the frog feared to let out his own ribbit.

“Gilgamesh stop regrets. Colubriiglisaad will wait for words. Stay. Demi-mount has made camp. Colubriiglisaad will greet them.” He said as he bound out of the forest and quickly made his way to the small camp the couriers Edge had sent to assembly his avengers.

Madame Sepheritus was in her workshop/office, carefully engraving small symbolic symbols on a piece of dark reddish brown wood, shaped like a little tablet, smaller than a page of a small book, thick as a coin. She had her eye glass on her eye as she curved the stylus on the wood to make delicate, neat and quite complex symbols. The symbolic language she was using was an intermediate one, and was one of her most favorite ones to learn when she was a student. Suddenly a noise from below broke her from her trace, and she looked up quite sharply. "Louis!" she said in a commanding voice, as she took of her eye glass and slithered using her green, snake lower body across the floor, and down the gradually descending stairs to the lower floors. She saw her apprentice, Louis, playing with his pet chameleon, who were more larger here at the North, as it raced after him as he ran.

"Louis! What are you doing here? You're supposed to arrange and organize the herbs room!" she said sharply.
"But I finished Ma'am." Louis said, grinning widely, his cheeks flushed from running. "And Calixsus had sneaked in the room, i was just chasing him away..." referring to the vividly coloured Chameleon.

"Have you taken out the fresh herbs we got yesterday to dry in the sun?" Madame said sternly.
"Oh..." The grin fell from his face, as this realization hit him "I'm afraid I may have missed that, Ma'am"
"Well then, what are you doing here? Go on! After you've finished, I'll give you a break until Lunch time, after which you must go straight back and finish learning the Zaramatheon alphabet." she told him, after which he rushed with a quick nod to the Herbs room, his deer hooves clattering on the floorboards.

Madame Sepheritus sighed as she slithered back up to her study to finish the inscription she was doing. If only he was as good in studying as he was in befriending every know creature in the North, she thought, as she put her eye glass back on.

The sound of soft rustling could be heard in the forest. The grass softly moved from side to side, while the winds whispered secrets to those willing to hear. Rashasto kept low to the ground, lest any of the forest’s less savory beings see him and confront him. He wasn’t as young as he once was, and so confronting anything at his age would take a toll. Many questioned his reasons for traveling alone and at an age where he should be passing on wisdom to others of his people, but Rashasto insisted that they had to partake in the matters of the North. If they didn’t, they would not find help once they needed it.

Rashasto was a white scaled snake, his scales shimmered a in the sunlight, reflecting the rays across them and glistening brightly. One could compare it to the color of a pure pearl found in the depths of the forgotten oceans. His eyes were yellow, sharp, and filled with intellect and wisdom. Many said that they felt the Mystic was able to peer into their very souls and know exactly who they were.

He had the head of a cobra, and a lean upper body of a humanoid. His arms were toned, and so was his chest, while his lower part continued to be that of a snake. He slithered low to the ground most of the time, holding a staff in one hand. The staff was a symbol of a mystic in the Shassakh tribe, only the greatest minds in their history received it. Rashasto was the eighth member of his tribe to receive such an honor, but many of his people felt like he strayed too far from the teachings of his predecessors.

The journey to Fakiur had been long, and despite Rashasto’s distance from the city, he was able to make his way to a nearby village thanks to a symbol magician he had known since she was a hatchling. From the village it was quite easy to make his way to the trade city, in hopes of meeting this young junior war chief and aiding him in his endeavour.

The cobra-like humanoid came to a pause before the city, hissing and straightening up. He coiled himself around a tree, steadying his upper body with his arms. Sharp eyes scanned the surroundings, gaining as much information as they could.

Zane made his way to the entrance of Fakiur, ready to make trade for supplies with his boar kill and other small animals he hunted.Even spending most of his time in the forest their were certain supplies he like to have from large cities like this to make life easier in the forest for him.As he approached the entrance he noticed something blinding in the corner of his eye above him and looked up to see a snake folk, bright white in color. He wasn't sure what to think of the snake folk over looking the city but he appeared to be scouting it out. Must have been his first time to this city.

He waved over to the white snake folk with his free hand saying to him:

"Guess its safe to assume your not a guard posted to the entrance of Fakiur for travelers snake folk. Anything in particular you looking for from up there?"

Rashasto hisses softly as he slithers down the tree, his eyes locked on the cat before him. The sharp eyes narrow even further, cautiously studying the individual that had so willingly approached him without a semblance of concern or worry. Perhaps these lands were safer than the ones Rashasto came from, then again...snakes were naturally guarded.

Circling around the cat Rashasto hissed once more before coming to a pause and straightening up, his long form creating an enclosed circle around the cat. There is a moment of silence before the serpent points at the city and turns towards it. He speaks in his native tongue, which sounds more like a series of hisses than anything else, “It doesn’t matter what we see...for sight is the easiest sense to deceive”.

He then turns back and nods at the cat before placing a hand on his chest, “Rashasto...”.

Zane watched the snake folk come down from the tree and towards him, never taking eyes off him as so did he. As the snake folk approached him he encircled around Zane with his lower body and he begun to place his hand on the hilt of his sword on his side. He didn't draw it but just had his hand at the ready in case things took a turn for the worse. The snake folk than turned towards the city and begun to speak in his native language. Zane's mother taught him three languages before she was killed: the cat folk, the wolf, and the deer. In his travels he picked up different words and phrases from others but the snake folk he rarely seen and knew next to nothing of their language so he didn't understand the snake folk's words. At the end though he placed his hands on his chest and spoke a name, Rashasto. Zane stood confused at first but assumed the snake folk met that as his name. He took his other hand with the bag of boar meat and placed it up against himself and in the wolf's language spoke his own name:

"Zane... and if you don't mind, please take your tail out from around me before things get dangerous for both of us, and the last thing either of us want to do I'm sure is cause a commotion outside Fakiur"

The giant snake seemed to float across the plains that reached out from the forest, is green and brown scales camouflaging his approach. It was not his intention to sneak up on an armed encampment, but it was in his nature. Lucky for Colubriiglisaad, these particular couriers had been trained and warned about how to deliver their message to the snakes of the jungle. They had been briefed to not enter the jungle, but to simply camp on the outskirts and await to be approached. They had not been warned, on how subtle and seemingly spontaneous the approach would be.

Colubriiglisaad had made himself known but erecting himself one of the horses. A member of the small camp who was resting by the fire, whittling away at some unimportant trinket, noticed a large shadow being cast upon him from his horses direction and waved and cooed the horse to calm down. It wasn’t until the horses panicked neigh emitted through the camp did the man glance up, to this large snake creature seemingly attacking his horse. It only took a moment before he had drew his sword and shield and made an attempt to charge Colubriiglisaad.

Luckily, Colubriiglisaad was just as quick and adapt with his own weapons. He withdrew his meteor hammer from his shoulder harness and thrust it out to meet the strike of the courier. A loud clang echoed through the camp, stirring the few horses even more. By now the other two members of this small party had sprung into action, one drawing a spear, the other a bow. Colubriiglisaad was sure he could take them, but that was not his goal. He simply wanted to message to deliver to his village hut.

He hissed as the ball at the end of his chain ricocheted of the first saber thrust at him, jerking it up then down rather quickly so that the ball would now impact the hand of the blade wielder. Not enough force to fracture any bones, but it would definitely leave a bruise.

“Come to Colubriiglisaad’s forest and trade no hello.” He said. His eyes scowled at the sword wielder before his head darted between the other two so quickly it was hardly noticeable.

“Give Colubriiglisaad your stained dead tree, Colubriiglisaad will pass to Huts.” Colubriiglisaad said to them. It did not take long for the band of couriers to understand and deescalate the situation. They quickly lowered their weapons and told Colubriiglisaad the message they brought with them.

Rashasto hissed after Zane spoke, eyeing the catfolk with intensity. He eventually spoke, but still in his native tongue, “Old habits”. With a rattle of his tail, the snake folk unwound himself and slithered in the direction of the city, his tail whooshing next to the small catfolk as he moved further away.

Rashasto paused, turning to look at Zane eventually. He hissed before continuing his path, stopping every now and then to see if Zane was following or not. The snake kept low and hidden, only rising to look back and check in on the cat. His body fluidly arched across any obstacles, and his senses picked up sources of heat around him which he did his best to avoid.

Zane stood in silence until eventually Rashasto said something he once again didn't understand and unwound himself from around him. He took his hand from off his sword hilt and before he could say a word Rashasto slithered away from him and out of sight. He didn't care much for the snake folk, especially not knowing much about them. If they were anything like the snakes he ran into in the forest, he would need to make sure he kept and eye and ear open for them. He made his way into Fakiur and found a good marketplace where he could trade in his boar fur and some meat for supplies he could use; just some simple herbs for treating aliments and dry food better suited for longer travel. Once he packed up his supplies, he found a local group of guards to ask for directions, and made his way towards Edge's headquarters.

After camping with the scouts for the night Colubriiglisaad made his way back into the forest. Gilgamesh let out a load croak, appearing joyful of his master’s return. Although the large frog was happy, it could not help but feel some of his masters own anxiety.

The men had told Colubriiglisaad what was in the letter he was now to deliver to the Huts. There was some great mystery. A mystery that was causing people to die. The army of the demi-kingdoms was recruiting people to investigate it. Colubriiglisaad new the huts would not send someone. They lived in the jungle now because they did not answer the callings of war. Why would they think to help others now.

“Gilgamesh, we ride.” Colubriiglisaad said in a soft hiss. His anxiety seemed to fade away and with Colubriiglisaad’s dissipating so did the frogs. He hopped over toward a tree, which Colubriiglisaad slithered up and then feel from into the weird basket on the back of the frog. With a mighty leap, the frog scaled the large trees of the jungle bursting through the canopy. Birds and other the other denizens of the top floor of the forest called out, yelling at the reckless frog. An exciting way to start his journey to the recruiter of these letters
