Imp thanked Mile for the bread and asked how much then if her offered silver coins were good. Mile took one and checked it and weighed it.

"Yes these are good currency here, the weight and quality is what matters here not the mint, but not everyone will be able to appraise your coins properly because I don't recognize the mint. I suggest you exchange them for local coins at the town's bank." Mile bowed her head courteously before she turned to other customers sitting at one of her tables gossiping. Both asked Mile about her fresh pastries.

"Oh, I have several pastries that are freshly baked. Some of my customers favorites are Samosa, Profiterole, Alfajor, Macaron, Rhubarb tart, Papanași, Pan dulce, Mooncake, Bossche bol, Knieküchle, Gözleme, and Apple strudel. Naturally I normally have these always freshly baked as they always sell out, I bake others as well. But I don't always have them ready and fresh."

"I'll have a Profiterole please."

Alina sets the necessary money down and after a thought doubles the amount.

"Give Fate whatever he wants as well please."

[Expendable]

"Thank you!" Imp smiled, relieved, taking the loaf from the counter. She bowed her head in thanks. "I'll see out a bank right away!"

While Mile's attention was on another customer, she produced another silver crown and slipped it into the tip jar before darting out of the bakery, crossing the street to the corner of the alley, then paused there to be sure nobody was following her.

Maybe she was too hard on the human who tried to buy her bread, but if there was one hard lesson all imps had learned, it was to watch out for the trap of obligations. It was not a trap she ever intended to find herself in again.

Satisfied, she darted up the alley to the red door, which she was happy to see was still there.

"I found bread and coffee!" she beamed, holding up her purchases before sitting down on the door step. "Proper good pumpernickel! And I may have good toast tomorrow, the baker's making me a special loaf!"

The door did not respond, although something behind it creaked in an odd way.

She sighed, blowing on her coffee before taking a cautious sip. "Arabica beans, medium roast. I should have asked for dark."

"Fate, this is a thank you for everything you've done for me so far. Please accept it," Alina pleads as she gives Fate her best puppy dog eyes.

[Fate]

*Seeing how he might offend if you continues to protest* Alright, I'll take you up on it then.
*looks to Mile* I'll have a Profiterole as well then please Mile.

Mile takes out another Profiterole ans serves it.

"Here you are, it's a tasty treat so I just know you're going to love it." Mile bows her head.

*takes a bite* Oh wow this is quite good! You're an excellent baker Mile!

Alina takes a bite of her Profiterole.

"Omg!" she cries out, "this is delicious!"

Alina looks over at Fate and can tell he's enjoying his as well.

"Fate, have you ever had anything so delicious in all your life?"

*looks up with crumbs on his face* No I haven't! Thank you so much for this treat Alina .

Alina notices the crumbs on his face. She reaches over and removes them and eats them, slightly blushing as she does so.

"You're welcome Fate! I'm glad you're enjoying it!"

*tries hide shocked face* Hmmm I wonder if the imp is alright? She seemed rather nervous and not from around here if she wasn't sure about currency. I wish she let me help her.

Alina turns to Fate and says, "Well Fate, some people don't want to be helped. It's the way things are."

Alina looks at Mile and says, "I'd like some tea please." She places the money on the counter.

*nods at Alina * Yes I know. Its a habit of mine gets me into trouble. Don't worry I know when to back off.... most of the time
