Ascham was excited since the Twilight Festival was starting tonight. It was held every year for 7 days, well more like 7 nights. It started at 8 PM and ended at 8 AM. The days were hot and it was cooler at night. During the festival hours lights would be lit up and fireworks would light the sky. It was time during the year in their town where everyone was on vacation. Of course it meant some worked on the during the Festival has some prepared and sold food, drinks, and artwork. Some shot off the fireworks. Some cleaned up. Though everyone usually took turns so others would have a chance to enjoy the festival as well.
Ascham dressed in his festival clothes which was sort of like a robe, it was hand crafted with natural simple patterns with bright summer colors: blue, green, and yellow. Once Ascham was ready he headed to the Festival. The Twilight Festival celebrated life, so it had a large variety of artwork for sale, food, and alcohol for purchase. It was traditional dress up in bright colors for the festival. Not everyone drank, but everyone ate and at least strolled from booth to booth to browse the art pieces if not purchase them.
Ascham did buy art from time to time at the Festival, but mostly he just enjoyed the interaction with the others in the town, and the dancing. Ascham always looked for art pieces on the first night, he still planned on trying out the different foods and dancing though. He arrived early. The crowed was light but he was sure it would pick up soon. He decided to look at the booth with carved wood faces, they looked like elfs and wizards.

Ascham looked at the new comer, oh she was from out of town so this might all be new to her but then again they might not. Ascham certainly didn't want to bore her with local knowledge she already knew. She was wearing bright clothes so at least she was spirit of the festival.
"Welcome, I'm Ascham, I assume you must be from out of town? If so have you attended this festival before? These masks are traditional around here and have quite a history to them. Some keep with the old traditions but the masks are sold more of a souvenir today.
"Legend says these carvings are being who already buried within the trees of guardian spirits. Trees possess many of these spirits, they are wizards and elves who posses magic that will us from evil spirits and monsters. So we use to buy these to hang at our front doors, and rooms we gather in and sleep in to protect our homes. It is considered a good omen when you enter ones homes and you spy these guardians." Ascham wasn't sure if the woman had heard about the history and tradition of these masks before of course he had summarized quite significantly as the story behind them was quite a lengthy one and most drawn out as you'd expect ancient beliefs and their surrounding stories to be. What they stood for was the important part though, so he shared that with her.
"Would you like to hear about Legends of our town or do you already know them, ah Miss..." Ascham trailed off realizing he didn't know who this young lady's name was.

"Welcome to our humble town Kitty," Ascham replied pleasantly with a smile as he found her response delightful. It would be fun to share the town's culture with a cute girl who showed genuine interest in it. Then Ascham continued
"Before we get into more legends, how about some food, our skewered chicken is pretty tasty with our town's traditional sauce on it. It's like a sweet soy sauce, the sweet being a pineapple and apple. So in has a nice tang with a smooth apple flavor." Ascham waited for Kitty's response. Thinking she might have already eaten. Then added one last bit as he smiled.
"It'll be my treat, so what do you say?" Ascham asked.
