I always liked the ideas of these tournament things, but I always felt like it felt tacked-on. Would love for it to be more integral to the story, some day.
While I would like to see how some people are doing after their respective games, I really don't want it to be forced all in one place like it has been in the past. Like, perhaps you just see a few well known elite four members from other regions traveling the new region or something, and then you could trade phone numbers with them and battle them whenever you wanted (almost as if they were rivals).

I never liked that mechanic, as it felt too... tacked on. Like in HGSS or BW2. I liked how it was done in GS, where you go to the region and the story continues there. But sadly, it would likely be difficult to do. The game'd end up far too long, unless they made an anthology of games. Or maybe did three regions per game, and released the X/Y versions with different regions entirely. (ie. one game has Kan/Joh/Hoenn and another has Sin/Uno/Kalo, for instance).
Yeah I see your points. I wouldn’t want a game to be rammed just full of characters- because that could potentially damage the storyline. Although to be fair, it was the whole days of the week, specific times that annoyed me with the rematches. I just wished you could turn up- or have the characters randomly turn up- like in HG/SS- where you found people like Cynthia and Steven in random places
