Hiiro No Kakera [AD/S -Advocate Title/Spoilers]

Welcome to the first of series of threads commanded by your resident Anime and Manga Assistant, Raiji Magiwind. This thread is one of the series I have opted to Advocate for the Spring 2012 season, as part of the "Anime Advocates" part of the A&M Assistant Scheme.

This title I watch via Crunchyroll.
      Crunchyroll Page: http://www.crunchyroll.com/hiiro-no-kakera

The first one up of the Spring 2012 season I have advocated is the series "Hiiro no Kakera" also known as Scarlet Fragment; Japenese- 緋色の欠片. The series is an anime based off a manga of the title, Hiiro no Kakera - Mezame no Toki and is also a visual novel as well. It is written or the art is done by Kosumi Fujiko. It is currently planned to air for an undetermined number of episodes. Studio Deen is the ones taking this show under its reigns, with no current English licencor at this time. At this time Crunchyroll is simulicasting the series as one of the legal venues to see this series.

      Series Synopsis: --From MyAnimeList
The protagonist is a teenage girl (Tamaki) who revisits a small village, she remembers from her childhood and gets caught up in her family's history and supernatural dangers surrounding it.

While walking along the hillsides waiting for the person who her grandmother sent to fetch Tamaki to the village, Tamaki comes across a small, white round object with sticks for limbs and talks. It runs off soon after, with Tamaki chasing after it. Soon Tamaki finds herself in a place where ‘it doesn’t feel like the world I came from’. She gets attacked by three slime creatures, and a male comes charging in to save her - by clamping his hands around her body and mouth and telling her to be quiet
Episode 1 Summary: (Air Date 3-5-2012) -PREVIEW PRE-RELEASE-

Tamaki arrives at Kifumura village, surrounded by nature. Her childhood memories guide her towards her grandmother's house but she is immediately attacked by monsters. The one who saves her is the surly boy, Takuma Onizaki
      Personal Thoughts:
Apparently the series itself isn't slated to start till April, but the series has been aired with a special debuting with a brief opening and closing from two of the Japanese Seriyuu's saying hi and announcing that the first episode is a preview of whats to come, so we shall see.

As for previewing the first episode. It wasn't too bad, but I do see this being one of those series' that will have a slower pace to it, which might be a nice thing depending on how the story plays out. I look forward to its official debut in a few weeks in April when the series shall roll out and seeing where the series goes from there.

      -------------
So feel free to come in and discuss, ask questions, post favorite images (links preferred for larger images please) and so on. Each week, I myself will add my review and thoughts for the recent episode and at the end I will post a final review and overall score for the series itself. In between though feel free to share your own thoughts and discussion on the series.

**Please be aware the synopsis for each episode is the official synopsis quoted from the site I watch the series on, with the overview of the series synopsis quoted from ANN or MyAnimeList. Personal versions of the synopsis will be listed below before the Personal Thoughts when I come up with one for each, and will supplement the official synopsis.

Also please keep in mind, that we try to aim to watch these titles via legal streaming sites (when possible) such as Crunchy, Viz, Nico Nico (English Beta site) or Funimation, among others, so we may follow there release schedule for the legal releases of the stream when we can. So please be patient if you for some reason see them out before elsewhere. e as Advocates will add the newest synopsis when they are released via our choice sites release schedule or within a few days after, dependent on if we are not exhausted from jobs, uni/collage or other real life obligations.

Meanwhile please keep your eyes open for the other Anime Advocated titles of the Spring 2012 Season by your A&M Assistant, (Your AL name). The other titles under my Advocation for Spring 2012 season are are:
      Medaka Box
Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? Jigoku Hen --Just waiting for Funimation to begin official LEGAL simulcasting...
      Zetman
      Accel World

Tamaki tries to find out what the Tamayori princess is and what the Onikirimaru is.
      Personal Thoughts:
Tamaki seems determined to learn more about the Tamayori Princess and her duties, though there still hasn't been much revealed yet either. I think this series though is going to be the type to be slow paced, so I don't think it will be for those who like more fast pace and plot process.

Tamaki begins to worry and experiences a sudden headache..
      Personal Thoughts:
With this episode we meet a group of demons who's names are the numbers 1-4 in German. They seem to be after something, but we don't know what yet, though it likely has to do with the seal. We also meet the final Guardian and things begin to slowly take some shape.

      Personal Thoughts:
Things are beginning to get a little interesting as one of the artifacts are stolen. There is also what seems to be a slight bit of turbulence among the Guardians as well. It also seems that Tamaki's headaches might be a sort of connection to the barriers and the artifacts as a Tamamori Princess, as when she has them or is filled with pain, it usually has to do with someone breaking through a barrier that is not her or a member of the Guardians or the Shugogo house.

      Personal Thoughts:
The groups tries to take on Logos and ends up pretty much getting there asses kicked. The guys are taking it a bit hard, as till Tamaki can awaken her powers, they are at a weakened condition. As the episode ends the second artifact is taken....
This series is interesting in a way, though I seriously hope the girl awakes soon, cause even I am kinda wanting to bitch slap her...>.>

      Personal Thoughts:
The recent battle has left the group raw and uncertain about the bonds they have, and they begin to question many things. This episode seemed to be one of those where the bonds are being tested and in turn, determining there strength while teaching Tamaki something. At the end there is a visit from a male whom seems to be there to help, but time will tell.

Suguru and the Shugogo cannot read his intentions, so doubt him, but Shizuki leaves the decision to Tamaki. Tamaki accepts the offer and upsets Mashiro and the others, who feel they are being treated as if they are useless.
      Personal Thoughts:
Things are getting a little interesting as the Bureau steps forward with a proposal. Tamaki seems to accept it reluctantly. Meanwhile we see the first inkling of something with tamaki when her nad two of the guardians visit the library and she is possessed by something briefly and it seems to tell the story of the Tamamori Princess.

ADVOCATE FINAL REVIEW FOR HIIRO NO KAKERA
      By Raiji Magiwind

      Hiiro no Kakera
Original Story/Plot - Kosumi Fujiko | Serialized in Comic B's-LOG | Genres: Fantasy, Romance, Shoujo, Supernatural

      Overall Synopsis of Series
      Quoted from MyAnimeList
The protagonist is a teenage girl (Tamaki) who revisits a small village, she remembers from her childhood and gets caught up in her family's history and supernatural dangers surrounding it.

While walking along the hillsides waiting for the person who her grandmother sent to fetch Tamaki to the village, Tamaki comes across a small, white round object with sticks for limbs and talks. It runs off soon after, with Tamaki chasing after it. Soon Tamaki finds herself in a place where ‘it doesn’t feel like the world I came from’. She gets attacked by three slime creatures, and a male comes charging in to save her - by clamping his hands around her body and mouth and telling her to be quiet.
      Plot/Story
Basically the protagonist comes back to the old village she grew up in after getting a summons from her grandmother. From there she learns she is next in line to be the next Tamayori Princess who is in charge of guarding a sacred sword.

      Total Stars: 3.5 of 5
This was sadly one of those series' I had a little trouble keeping with because of the plot. It was ok, but there wasn't much there other then the pretty bishie men to make me want to come back each week.

      Characters
      --Tamaki Kasuga--
Tamaki is a cheerful girl with a gentle nature. She is the next Tamayorihime after her grandmother.

      --Suguru Oomi--
Unofficial leader of the guardians and descendent of a giant snake. Suguru is the tactician of the group and can create powerful seals and barriers, as well as control water. He is very polite and reliable, but has a childish side. He's usually seen smiling and loves drinking tea.

      --Mahiro Atori--
An upperclassman of the main character and one of the five guardians. Mahiro is the descendent of the raven and can control the wind. He is extremely self-conscious when it comes to his height and is usually very loud, energetic, and can act immature. However when needed, he can show a serious side. He prefers women with big breasts and loves motorbikes and fried noodle buns.***

      --Shinji Inukai--
One grade below the main character and another guardian. Shinji has the power of healing (kaifuku) and can use the power of words to control things. Despite his looks he is very strong-willed and stubborn.

      --Yuuichi Komura--
An upperclassman of the main character and another of the five guardians. Yuuichi is the descendent of the nine-tailed fox and specializes in using illusions and spirit fire. He is very quiet and seems to be rather emotionless. He often spaces out and has the ability to sleep anywhere at anytime.

      --Takuma Onizaki--
The first guardian the main character meets and also her classmate. He has much strength, but is also quite slow. His hobby is doing crosswords and he enjoys eating taiyaki. He is the descendant of the oni, whose power is very hard to control, especially when near the sealed magical sword Onikirimaru.

      Total Stars: 4 of 5
The characters where ok, though I feel there could have been more into the development of the characters particularly learning a bit more about each of them and the Tamayori princess thing. Sadly the only sving grace was the guys where nice to look at.

      Art/Theme

      Total Stars: 4 of 5
The art wasn't too bad for the series, though it felt a bit plain all around...and they really didn't seem to go anywhere much, so it was usually a lot of the same places used over and over again.

      Overall/Closing Comments
The series was ok overall, but the bland plot and lack of any real scenery made the series lose a lot of luster. About the main thing that made me feel like continuing to watch each week just to finish was to drool over the bishies...particularly Takuma. Other then that the plot was sort of dull, anime wise, though I hear the games and light novels are a bit more interesting.

Total Stars for Series Overall: 3.5 of 5
      Likelyhood to Recommend:
      MAYBE
But only to someone who might be kind of bored and needs something quick to kill time.
