Partly agree, partly disagree. While yes, people like Magenta in the crowd are somewhat obnoxious because of the way they forced themselves into things over the host/other people, that level of charisma is important for an entertainer. Even if they're not "making it about themselves", if a host isn't entertaining, what's the point of them being there? There's a good middle ground to be had here - Magenta was just an example I was using that everyone would know, so not a perfect example; a step towards the correct level of charisma.

With regards to the criticism of the Clan Battle; while I understand where it's coming from I would like to raise some counter points

      1) Only half of the clan battle was decided by cheering
      2) The Vampires were only 65 points behind the Ninjas before the battle.

If it had been all cheering and/or the point difference had been wider I would understand, but our clans were almost neck and neck at that point, and the Clan Battle needs to have some reasonable chance of affecting the result. Otherwise what's the point of having it in the first place?

Hi all, Rodders here. I hope everyone who played DND with me over the con enjoyed themselves. If you have any suggestions or requests for next years event please let me know, if you would like my comedy adventure or you prefer a normal game I can do either. I run 2nd edition DND so people can have a go at an older edition (And because I need to learn 5e before I run that!) And we had anor I DM run five on the Sunday. So to recap thanks for joining in the fun and I hope to see you all at Alcon next year. P.S. I will run DND at other cons!!

Re: Thank You For Attending! Give Us Your Reactions, Feedback & Highlights!

i thought the con went quite well, from what i had heard from those around me, the convention had hardly anydramas during the weekend which goes to show that things were being delt with better or people were generally behaving which i know in the past has not been the case so well done there.

i was pleasantly surprised that having everything in the one building worked so well, VG was positioned well and i liked the idea of choose a game and play it rather than this is what is on this console nothing else, the panel space was good, bit small but that did not seam to be a problem and in all fairness being so close together no one really had any issue hearing what was being said which i know in the past has been an issue, id like to say although it is on the time table map some better signage would be welcome, i noticed people didn't see the entrance to VG on the right and instead walked through the main hall and out again, although they managed to find it eventually a sign with arrows directing people would have been nice, even i missed it the first time round,
on the same note as signage i thought things could have been advertised better at the con, for example i was asked a few times while standing outside the main hall where the table top was, and yet we were above it, i know that sounds daft but if they missed it going up when they go down people would have carried on without turning round, same for the ninjas assassin sign up, i had a conversation with the guy in charge and for a good time during said conversation i didnt even know his booth was the ninja assassin sign up until he mentioned it himself, a banner saying this event is here rather than relying on people asking random people for help (considering most people that go con suffer with anxiety or other such things they may appreciate a bit of contact less directions)

another way you could advertise things is when an event on the main stage finishes while everyone is packing up perhaps someone could jump on stage and tell those in the crowd what events are happening right now and where, offer them information telling them that ninja assassins is downstairs if they want to sign up, let them know Pokemon tournament and DnD is outside if ya interested, talks are downstairs or in a hour the next event on main stage is..... rather than just finishing and clearing up expecting the crowd to wait for the next event as people walk in as others are leaving they see an empty room and think its canceled, better stage presence and attendee to attendant communication.

one final observation would be better ways to earn clan points, other than just main events there should be side events, like challenge someone to a game in table top or in VG get crew to witness and winner earns points, obviously that would be 1 token per thing so if you played someone in an opposite team at Mario kart and won you would not be able to play them again that day but if you switched to another person or game then thats a different challange, but something like that, just something to give people incentive to both earn clan points and try out new things and get involved.

overall though i would say this con was a success, being in one building was great, less walking and if things clashed time wise it was not a panic to choose what one is more important since they were either upstairs or downstairs not across the road in another building so you could do both, events always need modifying but were fun non the less and keeping things from over running is not easy so i understand, i hope we stick to just one building, maybe get a few extra rooms if we need to expand but i think the layout was great.

oh one last observation (sorry ill stop soon lol) why did we have the dealers set up Friday at the same time as registration, it got a bit crowded what with the Que of sign ups and then people going back and forth with merch, could they not have set up Thursday instead also and this is my personal opinion but the merch room was poor, not much there to buy just little nick nacks, iv been going to this con for many years and the selection of stuff this year was not as good as other years, no dvds, little manga hardly any t shirts and no plushes other than hand made stuff, i know its all about who is willing to come and sell and if others have better offers then they wont come to us but there must be loads of people out there shorly a better selection could have been found, however my wallet thanks you since i didn't spend as much as previous years lmao.

The way which clan answered was determined was ineffective too. I feel like this should have been one of the things that was pre-planned, as I imagine it had nothing to do with the missing PowerPoint. The Closing Ceremony was also very unorganised and, as one of the constants in the timetable, I really expected more on the planning side of things here. The Clan Battle Showdown (Not Baka no Gameshow) relied, for the most part, on the audience for its content.
As Clan Leaders we thought that audience participation would be better the for showdown, but if you think we could do more ourselves then we can definitely suggest that to next years leaders!

I did actually notice this myself while I was setting up the bingo, which was unfortunately too late to go back and correct everything, but we can definitely fix that for next time!

Both were amazing performances and it could have gone ether way but when the crowd chose one and the other goes through it shows a little favouritism from the judges. Not helped by one of the tasks on the treasure hunt being to buy the staff a drink.
I am sorry if this felt biased, from where I was stood on stage both cheers sounded exactly the same even after asking twice, which is why I asked another staff member who was not on stage, and they said person 1 so I went with them. I will also say that the staff member who I asked did not personally know either of the contestants in that round. I will however try to make sure all future decisions are definitely fairer, maybe I just need to make people cheer a few more times until it's clear

We actually are making new clips, but unfortunately we couldn't get new ones ready in time for this event, but I promise we will have new clips for next year!

Yeah we'll definitely do this next time, both of the presenters (me and Rebecca) who share Karaoke agreed this when we spoke about it on Sunday. Hopefully for next year we'll be able to use a tablet for sign ups which allows us to see them on the laptop, and makes it easier for us to see if people have already gone, and if they have we can put their second song choice to the end and just do it if there's time available. We are really sorry to anybody who didn't get a go

Shall definitely be doing more of this! When ending an event on stage we do announce the next stage event but wasn't particularly sure on other areas of the convention. We had a few timetables at the desk but if we were stood on stage we couldn#t really see that - so i'll definitely make sure we keep a few conbooks and printed timetables on the actual stage next year so we can check and announce

Re: Thank You For Attending! Give Us Your Reactions, Feedback & Highlights!

I would like to begin with a big thank you and a congratulations for the turn around in this con. The staff as always were incredible and looked after us all.

I think most of my main comments have been touched on by both Moley and Kirsty after our discussion on the way home yesterday. The main thing I think would really help improve the overall effect of the con is a more consistent stage presence. There were a lot of times I went in to the bar and there was absoloutely nothing on the stage. People in the audience from the event previously would get up and leave and there isn't really any interaction with the crowd. In between events there could be someone getting up and talking about one of the events that are ongoing over the weekend (Pokemon tournament/assassin/dnd) chat a little bit about what is coming up next or later, regular updates on clan point totals to encourage more clan interaction or ever little clan battles doing silly party games (I'll hopefully be trying out for Pirate leader for the next on so happy to chat a bit more about this side of it)

Not only is the above just good for sharing information it keeps people in that bar area interacting and even watching something they might not have before.

The layout was great, I did miss having late night access to board games but it really encouraged higher attendance to the parties, which were great. Having one building made the staff presence more noticeable which made the atmosphere much more relaxed, if you ever had a question it wasn't hard to find someone who knew the answer. Having the layout maps with timetables on the walls as has been done in past years would have been good, especially for dummies like me ho never take their conbook out.
Not having AL staff out in the quad yelling at people to be quiet actually made people moderate their own volume, I found that it was quieter than last year. All of the groups outside were civil and I think those outside areas are a vital socialising space.

Overall I don't have a single complaint which is incredible because I usually have at least one. Keep up the good work!

Re: Thank You For Attending! Give Us Your Reactions, Feedback & Highlights!

Overall a good event, very much enjoyed myself at Alcon this year. I felt some things could have been handled better but overall I felt there was alot more that was good than there was bad

      Pro

      - Jollyboat, as always were fun

      - Enjoyed the quiz

      - Variety of merch at the traders

      - I like the idea of " 'clan' controls this area" posters. Gives people a idea of how the points are going and hopefully encourages participation

      - Saw various new faces on the crew. From the little interactions I had with them they spoke politely and helped with whatever I needed. I had another friend tell me much the same

      - Loved the rock party, the ball and the final countdown party at the end

      - Thursday night in the common room was fun

      - Nice size tabletop area

      - VG had a nice area. Felt it was a good layout and a good variety of consoles and games. I know not everyone likes the retro gear but I personally like seeing some

      - Found the bar to be reasonably priced. If you had a hand in this then well done

      - The condensed size worked well. Having all the content in the one building ment less walking and easier to make it round different events

      Cons

      - Small dealers area. Would it be possible to hire another room / area of sufficient size for tabletop and then to extend dealers along the bottom floor?

      - Karaoke could have run better but this has been addressed already

      - I was told by one of the regular crew that the cosplay masquerade ran over because of too many sign ups. This caused the stage to run behind schedule, which put strain on the quiz later in the evening. The gaming round was dropped because of time constraints and the venue security was then rushing people out at the end. Maybe you should work out the number of cosplayers you can manage during the given time slot and cut off sign ups after that? First come first serve. It shouldn't be too difficult to work out a rough number

Re: Thank You For Attending! Give Us Your Reactions, Feedback & Highlights!

Fantastic work this year to you guys at Animeleague and all of the volunteers.
This year has been superior to the previous 3 years and almost as good as 2014 *Which for me was the best*

      Pros:
Liberty, having everyone in the same area makes it easier for key handouts and accomodation requests and also much more sociable.
Whilst i did still spent most of the later times in my room i found it easier to socialise with the people in my block with access to the common room
      and the people partying.

The space this year is far better than last year and i beleive the condensement of space this year has vastly improved the quality of events and participation.
I do feel the missing pc suite has impacted the gaming section for me personally but i still had plenty of fun with access to games like CTR and Ones justice.

Assassins, i feel this years assassin game has been much more fun with the bounties and whatnot than the previous years.
A couple improvements i could suggest, Perhaps add a random target per player every 3 hours with chance for bonus points and either make it impossible
for you to be killed by someone you've already killed that day or within 1 hour at least.

Clan points, I feel that the inclusion of the zones made people more interested in the clan battles (myself especially after amassing 475 clan points)
But i feel the zones themselves were pretty useless, perhaps each zone a team controls should give bonus points at the end.
This would encourage teams to either mass points on one poster guaranteeing them that zone or spread them thin risking losing zones but also at high reward.

Tabletop, Tabletop was fun this year i found it easier to find games and people to play said games and also enjoyed it being a safezone from the assassins games.
Big thanks to James and Chris(Really sorry if I got your name wrong) this year both were great in this zone, Chris participated in many tabletop games and brought
more people to try new games that players would have otherwise never tried and james brought combat lightsabers, which was EXTREMELY entertaining.
Perhaps a lightsaber tournement or larp tournement could be fun next year with solid foam swords and shields. This could probably be done on stage.

Dealers, whilst the reduction in dealer room size was a little disheartening, the dealers that did come were fantastic and the top guys from previous years with wonderful figures,
tshirts and merchandise. There was an issue with a figure i bought and the dealer swapped it, no questions asked. Thanks guys!

Anime screenings, Whilst i did not attend these myself, i appreciate them being in there own room allowing for quiet time for some people and also making sure its not disrupting other events.

Registration was much quicker this year due to keys being collected at liberty.

Venue, The venue bar and food was fantastic, thanks to the DMU SU for the great food and prices.

      Cons:

Final Clan Battle, I found that the final clan battle was fairly heavily weighted to the vampires due to missing attendees and also the
fact that during the stages that the win was given to the team with the loudest cheers, One of the leaders for vampires
was also joining in with the cheering which made them seem much louder than they should have been to Mel as he is directly next to her.

PC, the lack of a pc suite was unfortunate this year but did not affect my enjoyment of the event too much.

Panels, the lack of high name panelists and also the extremely late announcement of said panelists for the most part meant i had no interest in attending any of them.

Jollyboat, whilst i did not attend it is nice to see them returning once again for yet another year and gaining high praise from everyone that went.

Tournements, Tournements need more variety as the majority of these tournements were smash, Ones justice was listed but ended up not being an actual tournement which was dissapointing.

Gaming Quiz, I feel the questions need to be more varied, 4 out of the 21(?) questions were related to GTA and some questions (which game did not get a sequal in NA)
is completely useless as thousands of games did not receive a sequel.
Some questions like, Who made the PS4, need to be clearer as this could either be Mark or Sony themselves.
Was a tad shame to see very few nintendo questions and one of the questions ended up being incorrect.
Was still fun to attend none the less.

Workshops, The lack of practical workshops this year was unfortunate as i would have loved to attend some cosplay creation workshops and such.

Duration, I understand some people liked the 3 day duration this year but personally, with how far i travelled, I would have rathered pay a little more for
tickets and stay for the full 4 days again, I woudl gladly pay a bit extra to arrive that day early as this year did.

Overall a fantastic year for alcon and a great thanks to everyone at animeleague for making this year enjoyable and entertaining, some personal shoutouts to, Ash
James, Chris, Rebecca, Mel and The guy who headed the assassins table itself.

      Can't wait for next year!

Hey, head of VG here. Thanks for providing feedback on the department. I hope everyone did have fun playing games! I am aware of the mentioned issues above. I do feel I did run the CTR tournament poorly with that style I did, so let me aplogise for that. I am aware of the issues that accured with the PS Move controllers for not charging, so again aplogises for that. Definatly getting the charging dock for them if anyone else has any other feedback that would be great! Thanks

Re: Thank You For Attending! Give Us Your Reactions, Feedback & Highlights!

Hey all! Mel - Head of Stage/Organiser.

First off like to say I'm glad you can see the effort we have put into this year and happy you enjoyed yourselves it is really nice to see Love the feedback coming as I do know a few things did go wrong and do need improvment.

First off "Who's that Pokemon". It was a late addition to the timetable as we didn't want 2 hours of AMV Chillout. Yes I forgot to actually add it to my USB because there were general trivia questions, BETTER and HARDER "Who's That Pokemon" and it was meant to be a team based game where you have two teams battle it out to be the pokemon master. However, me being a dummy and rushing to grab my train I forgot to add it so next time it will be alot more organised! I can only apologise for me not putting it on my USB.

@Eternal0snow92 did you send the message on the facebook page or personally? Because I tried to be on social media as much as possible but haven't recieved a message from you. Sorry it wasn't answered can hopefully make a better effort next time

Accomadaiton I will touch on but will leave that to Mike. We did ask Liberty to provide Kettles, two pillows for double rooms (2 people in the same room) and two keys for double rooms. They didn't do this so we will be speaking to them because Mike wasn't happy that there was only one pillow in our room. Luckily I had my baby shark pillow We will be discussing it with them, but we will put out a list of what to bring on the website and such as well.

Being Kicked out - That whole thing was security and the venue not us, however we will be changing this/tweeking it. Again @Ferefire has more to say on it when he gets round doing his summery post.

Cosplay Masquerade - I don't remeber it overunning on both days? Unless I am mistaken. Judging was by myself I made the final decision. As someone who is a cosplayer themselves and has helped with plenty of masquerades for years I do know when I see a good cosplay/performance. I also did get advice from other staff who cosplayed and a cosplay guest there as well who I trust well. In the past (including last year) when I let other people judge they tend to go their friends and not actually want to look up if the costume is handmade. ALL the costumes that placed were handmade. I have a spreadsheet of all the details of their costumes when they submit their form. The dance act who placed second was a very good performance, everything was handmade and clean, it looked like you could buy it from a shop it was that good.
This is also a tip for any cosplayers taking part in the masquerade. Stay on for more than 30 seconds, enjoy the stage and enjoy being the character even if you don't have a skit or dance planned. There were some lovely cosplays on the Sunday I really wanted to give a prize too, but they just stayed on for a short period of time. @Nish I believe you heard me say about the Code Geass cosplayers "I like that anime", but that's not why they placed, everything was handmade and again clean as I spoke to them and they enbodied the characters. Sorry if this one sounds like a bit of a rant, but I do take judging this seriously

Bands - Stage doesn't really seek out bands they came to me. I personally liked them, they set themselves up tech wise and it was very loud so next time I may just turn it down slightly, but I am sure it is the accoustics in the room. I remember last year people at the back couldn't hear and suggested putting speakers at the back which isn't possible. I will try and seek less heavy bands just depends if they are available

On note of tech we are buying a new mixer as ours were having a few problems during the con this also explains Jollyboat with no guitar. But I also think Ed needs to fix his aux port

Yaoi vs Yuri - I was under pressure to do it because the band overran and I had security bugging me to hurry up. If someone wants to bounce ideas off happy to do it or host it themselves like I gave Baku no Gameshow to Maggie and Marina happy to do that

Masquerade Ball - Glad that went well! I enjoyed it and I know got a lot of complaints last year!

      Jad Saxton -
The reason she had one Q&A each day was because we had a lot of one dayers this time round and I would've had a complaint saying why couldn't I ask her a question. I do agree should've been more variety rather than just a Q&A which will happen for next time ^_^

Mario Kart Drinking Game - Most likely going to not do it next year as it is a lot in set up, and I'll be honest not the best commmontater on a sunday evening I'll try my best to make a plan, but unless I have an outstanding we need this I'll replace it with something new

Closeing Ceremony/Clan Battles - It was neck and neck between ninjas and vampires. I will put a new points system in place to make it a bit fairer. The whole point is if you want your clan to win be there at the showdown to cheer on your clan otherwise the people who are there for the other clans will win. I will make a new system up rather than just cheering as Steven and I need to realise Clans work differently compared to a normal AGC. I will also count the points up earlier as I forgot we were doing the whole each section has points so went from counting 3 posters to 12

I did like the suggestion I think @kirsty050 or @moley2twiggy said about having presenters on stage between events to interact with the audience and just give a general rundown on things is something we will do. Like said before Steven and I are used to putting music on, people dancing and having fun while we sneak off for a break, but we need think through those sorts of things. This will also help when I have another presenter as it was nice having Rebecca and Grace then myself occasionally. I do think adding one more person will help so we aren't all tired. 9am - 3am workshifts do take it out of you.

Overall I'm glad you guys enjoyed yourselves and we are already working on improvments. For example Dub That Anime yes they are old clips and will be changing them. As much as I love the Jonny Bravo clip I will have to get rid of it as it has had its time. If any of you are interested in giving any new ideas for games, stage content or panels please send me a message as the more help on what you guys want is so much better

I will raise my hand to this one. In the moment I genuinely thought we were all doing it and I didn't think I was swaying the result that much (even with me cheering there were several times the judges asked for clans to cheer again because there wasn't a clear winner), but if I affected the result unfairly I apologise . I'm not planning to stand again next year (I've had my turns as leader) but I understand where you are coming from and should I be in a similar situation again I won't join in the cheering.

P.S For the record I'm a "she" not a "he".

      My thoughts on the con

My main thoughts concern the Panel area. The panels didn't seem to be drawing much interest this year. I wonder if that was at least partially to do with the lost of abridger and channel awesome guests (if possible I think they should be brought back or replaced). I also feel that they weren't in a great spot for panels, and often we were drowned out by noise. I think that if panels are here to stay they should at least be moved (if there is an available space), and if attendance doesn't rise it should be considered if they can be saved or if that space could be better used for something else (maybe an expanded artists alley?).

Everything seemed to be running much more smoothly this year. The merchandise and tabletop areas were packed (which was nice to see), and the only problem I could see with the games room was that one of the move controllers was buggy/defective/unreliable.

I wondered how lowering the age for entry would affect the con, but honestly it didn't seem to change that much.

Apologies but i uh, don't think i was referring to you? Im reffering to the tall person with glasses (if that was you i am so so sorry, i was sat quite far back and couldnt really hear too well because my hearing is a little boffed(is that a word?)).
I feel maybe there should be points for each battle rather than altogether and that the games should have clear winners like the scavenger race.
