A place to discuss your favourite books and authors (trying to keep away from Manga, there's a whole section for that!)
Mine, in a fairly flexible order:
American Psycho - Bret Easton Ellis
Rules of Attraction - Bret Easton Ellis
Shogun - James Clavell
The Book Thief - Markus Zusak
The Circle - Dave Eggers
Ring - Koji Suzuki
In The Miso Soup - Ryu Murakami
Piercing - Ryu Murakami
Audition - Ryu Murakami
The Beach - Alex Garland
My favourite authors are Cecelia Ahern and Haruki Murakami. I have all their books so its hard to choose favourites from them
I absolutely love thrillers and dark books. I read The Girl Before by JP Delaney recently and thought that was really good.
I read American Psycho but it took me ages to get through it, which really disappointing me as I love the film! It was all the constant dicsussing of clothing and scenes, it just got a bit too much for me. I completely understand why he was doing it and really respected him for it but not my cup of tea. I'd be really interested in hearing what you like about it Also yaaaas to Audition, I loved that book and film.
Sig and Avatar made by the wonderful Nocchi
I haven't heard of Cecelia Ahern, I have heard of Haruki Murakami but not read their books. Any I should start with?
American Psycho is a hard read. I like the story and how it flows between Bateman's two characters; killer and banker, and how they're almost one and the same, and how it leaves you thinking if it was all real or just his imagination. I like mind f**k books like that! I also like the lore of the book; apparently Easton Ellis was so high when he wrote it he didn't even recognise it as his book when it got released.
Audition is brilliant, but I haven't seen the film
She's chick lit but really imaginative and original. You may have heard of P.S I Love You?
For Murakami probably the trilogy that most start with, 1Q84. That or Norwegian Wood which has a film adaption. The Wind Up Bird Chronicle is one of my faves.
I did like that part definitely! OMG was he really? ha ha no wonder.
I've heard of PS I Love You but not my kind of thing.
I've also heard of 1Q84, I'll have to check it out as it does sound like my kind of thing!
Also, more graphic novel than book, but the Scott Pilgrim series is one of my favourites too
I do like my crime dramas mostly. I do read the James Patterson ones. I have read the Alex Cross stories, but I do prefer his stand alone ones more than anything. My favourite of his is Kill Me If You Can- which has an awesome twist to it. Don't Blink is another good one.
I also at the moment are collecting the Alien Omnibus novels, as they are collecting the comics of the franchise into novel books.
Then it's my manga mostly, but like mentioned, that has its own section.

Oh cool. I've never read James Patterson but I'm pretty sure I'd enjoy them
If you like a good crime thriller, then yes, I'd definitely give them a shot!
Also Lee Child's Jack Reacher ones are pretty decent too.
I read the first Jack Reacher book, and it was ok. Wasn't sprinting to the book store to get the next one either though
Yeah with the Jack Reacher ones, I find they are really drawn in out, in comparison to most others,
I'm currently reading A Perfectly Good Family by Lionel Shriver for my book club but omg it is the worst. The characters are so unlikable, the story isn't interesting me in the slightest and I'm just finding it so hard to keep going. This may be the first book ever that I don't finish!
Ouch- nothing worse than a boring book. We had to do one for GSCE’s called Paddy Clark Ha Ha Ha. My god was it boring! It was so difficult keeping up in class.
Luckily everyone else in the book club today said they really didn't like it either! So I'm giving up! Gotta decide which book to start next
I've not heard of that one! What was it about?
Well that’s good- at least there’s a unanimous decision.
It was about a boy growing up in Ireland- but it was so dull. There was nothing in it that could grasp your interest. J can’t remember much of it as I’ve been left school now for a while. See so memorable I completely forgot the book mostly.
Ha ha that's when you know a book is good...forget the plot :p won't be one I'll add to my list then lol
