Remembered I found this a while ago.

Now see I enjoyed Platinum and Crystal, but then Emerald was another one, but I enjoyed that as well. As far as I can see so far, there ain't a lot of differences, except the extra content of Team Rocket etc... But then I am shamed to admit that I didn't really enjoy Sun and Moon all that well. But...

So are USUM more like Crystal and Platinum then? I'm a lil disappointed, as I assumed they'd be more like BW2. :( Surprisingly when I first bought Platinum, I wasn't really disappointed that is was not too different than D/P, so maybe I won't be too disappointed with the Ultra being similar to S/M.

Indeed. I was expecting it to be like that. Pleasantly surprised in some respects. Yeah same to be honest. But I am finding it better than Pokemon Sun, which seems weird as it's literally more or less the same game. Yeah, I asssumed it was going to be a Black & White / Black 2 & White 2 kinda difference. A lot of people did mention to me that Sun/Moon and their Ultra counterparts...
