AL Club London - 13th-16th Nov! Discussion & Hostel Stay

Note: ALCL meets are in the future the ONLY meets we will do London hostel stays for. We no longer will do hostel stays for MCM Expos, since a lot have ALers have said they are bored of the same thing.

AL Club London @ Friday afternoon, 13th November till Monday morning, 16th

What is AL Club London? (aka ALCL)

On Saturday November 14th 2009 at the Slug & Lettuce American Square at Tower Gateway, London and with a capacity of 400 people, ALCL is London's little anime convention. It's just £5 for all day from midday to midnight. We have dealers, video gaming, anime screening, an Artist Alley, DDRing, roleplaying, card-gaming, along with many events such as a masquerade, pub-quiz, parties, special guests (Roppongi Street are announced with more to come!) and much more!

It costs £5 to get in, and you need to be 18 years or older.

We're accepting to all anime fans, from ALers to non-ALers, to casual fans to otaku!

Where we are staying and price.

We will be staying at the Dover Castle Hostel. It is located at Borough station which is just three stops away from Tower Gateway. Total train time will be about 15 minutes to get there.

The price will be £35 for two nights (Fri/Sat), or £52 for all three nights. Payment will need to be sent to myself by the end of September. I will PM you with the address to send a cheque to after you signup in this topic!

Note - Visitors are NOT allowed to go up into the dorms. If you want to get into the dorms, you have to pay for a place.

Transport Information.

Getting the London in itself is not the end of transport costs. You will need to get a London Underground Day Travelpass on the Saturday at the least. This will cost £5.85. It will allow you to go anywhere in London all day via the underground.

I would recommend booking in ADVANCE by train or coach. You might get a discount.

I got my return ticket from Cheltenham last convention from them for just over a fiver. It was less than a QUARTER of what it'd have cost me via train.

Friday Activities

We will all be meeting at Borough train station at 1pm to go onto the hostel. If you are arriving later, then we can arrange to meet you then.

The idea of the Friday is to have a day going around London enjoying ourselves. Possible places to go will include -

- The Troccadero
- Namco
- Some cool bars, etc

Saturday Activities

Those who stay overnight will be allowed to have early entry to ALCL at 11am. Normal entry is at midday. We will then be rolling until midnight, where everyone will return to the hostel (or go home/to their hotels!).

Lots to do throughout the day, including a tonne of events (timetable to be released mid-October), dealers (we will aim to have plenty of companies involved, so there will be plenty to buy, probably at prices lower than Expo events), Video Gaming, Artist Alley, anime screening and so forth.

Sunday Activities

You'll either go home on the Sunday, or spend the day chilling out with everyone. Largely will be winding down and doing whatever everyone feels like over the course of the day. May go for a drink or ten later on as well!

Costs.

You are advised to put aside a total of at about £100 for this convention, including Hotel costs, transport costs, food costs, and other costs. It could be done on less, but I'd not advise it if you wish to have a good time!

i checked the site where u say register what does it mean by 'badge name' is that what u want your badge to say when u collect it?

Yeah, that'd be what your badge says. Note that only people who register and pay beforehand get a badge. Everyone else just gets wrist-bands as proof of entry.

And yes, people do indeed cosplay!

Any issues with Prepay: Hmm well if anyone is going to the MCM expo in October I can hand over the money there but it depends really on how the prepay works, if it's by card I'll grab someone with a card and do it that way.
