Battle of the DJs - Signup Here - Chance to DJ at Alcon-

We are delighted to announce that the Battle of the DJs event shall be going ahead for Alcon 2008. The basic idea is that ALL members have a chance to not only DJ at Alcon, but to be acknowledged as Alcon 2008's #1 DJ.

How will this work?

Stage 1 - The trials over AL Radio

As you may be aware, Animeleague has it's very own internet radio station over Shoutcast. Currently we are working on getting it fully operational again, complete with a proper schedule and so forth on this site.

When you signup, you will DJ three twice over the AL radio over a three week period. Each time shall be for between 1 to 3 hours, depending on how much time you have available. All ALers will have an opportunity to tune in and listen to the DJing. Not only will ALers be listening, but our team of three judges (panel to be announced) will also listen.

These trials will take place from ~~Monday 14th January to Sunday 3rd Feburary.~~Tuesday 4th March to Sunday 30th March

From the trials, the judges will select the top three finalists who will go through to stage 2. Depending on the number of entrants or if two potential finalists are of similar quality, we may have a DJing playoff at a later date to help determine this.

Stage 2 - The Finals at Alcon 2008 itself.

The three finalists will be Alcon's DJs over the weekend. On the Friday and Saturday, all three will be given specific timeslots to DJ in when the evening parties are taking place. Obviously they will need to be versitile since each night will have a different theme (ie: Anime theme for Friday night and Video Gaming for the Saturday night), so they will be expected to bring along music to help reflect the night's theme that they will be playing on (along with some normal music as well obviously... should be about 50-50 between the night's theme and normal mainstream music).

On the Sunday morning, the polls will open at ops, allowing everyone to cast their votes for their top DJ across the weekend. These will run from 10am until 3pm. The winner of the Battle of the DJs will then be announced in the Closing Ceremony, and that DJ given the opportunity to play for the entirity of the Sunday night.

I'd love to sign up ^.^ I dj alot of the time at local bars and clubs. just started to do anime related nights with music videos and anime related music. they go down a right treat

Ideal Genre: Techno industrial, hard EBM, metal and industrial rock, basically a lot of dark & hard dancebeat material
Genres: I can do pretty much anything dark with a dancebeat and metal related since my music collection crosses so many boundaries. I also have a vote of confidence from a number of people, so you'd have to be really silly not to pick me. Johnny was great last time, but it was actually me that persuaded him to choose a fair amount of the songs that he did. Not taking anything away from him, but my influence was in there too.

The Battle of the DJs will quite possibly take place on the Friday night from 8pm to midnight, giving two hours to both of it's DJs (with an hour wind-down afterward from a guest DJ). It will possibly also take place on the Saturday night between 7pm and 9pm, with the VG party taking place afterward from 9pm to 1am.

This is still very provisional, of course (and subject to changes). But, that's what I currently have in mind. Ideally we would like to give more than two hours per DJ, but it's going to be tricky to fit it in without overly compromising other events and activities.

Right, all of the posts have been split off. Ermac, and everyone else who was replying, please do remember that this is meant to be for fun, and should not be taken absolutely ultra-seriously. Competitive is fine, but let's be careful to draw a line and respect one another here too. If people get too obsessed with winning, then it takes away from the fun and spoils it for others.

SO I take it for the AL Radio it's a SAMBC setup? What about at ALcon? I'm used to using both SAM for online and large cd-based systems [used to do all the crappy cheesey discos at school since noone else knew how to use the bloody things :p]
