Audiobooks

What are your views on audiobooks? Do you think they're good or do you prefer to physically read a book?

Generally prefer real books but Audiobooks can be nice depending on the source material. For example, the audiobook of "World War Z" was very good.

I like the idea of audio books, they are great for people that for example have to use a lot of time traveling but get nauseous if they read and/or they have to drive. That being said, I find myself very picky on the narrator's voice. I hate it flat, I hate it too dramatic, it has to be just right. End result? I seem to hate all audiobooks. So I prefer the paper-ones. If I listen to something else than music, it's usually a radio play or a lecture.

Depends on the narrator. Though generally I don't listen to audio books, since I prefer reading the words. That being said, when i was a young'un I really liked the Harry Potter audiobooks with Stephen Fry narrating.

I'm currently listening to... 50 shades of grey. This is purely because I live by the philosophy that you can't judge a book until you've full read it. However, I couldn't bring myself to purchase it and physically read it. I had a free credit on Audible so I downloaded the audiobook for free. All I can say about it is it burns my ears... it's truly horrible.

I like the fact that I can play pokemon while listening to audiobooks and I can still follow the story, I'm all for them. Thats probably because I'm a lazy toe-rag

I really like audiobooks, a) because I'm dyslexic so reading novels can take ages b) I read a lot in my job so my motivation to read is pretty low.. but they're so expensive I rarely listen to them (I usually borrow them). I did listen to all 7 Harry Potter books over a month a few years back which was a lot of fun and the BBC did a great adaptation of Neuromancer a while back as well with John Shrapnel as the titular AI.

I prefer audiobooks nowadays because they save me time. Although I'm bad at multitasking, I'm trying! But I can listen to an audiobook while doing something or going somewhere. If you don't have that much time it really helps. The only downside of it I see is if you didn't like the voice but it hasn't happened to me yet. xD'
