The Price of Fire and Blood

Thunder rumbles in the cold dark night
and masks her solemn grief.
A bright flash reveals her in the light;
her form begging for some relief.

Her golden scales shimmer
and her dark eyes, lost
where fire and strength with passion would glimmer
her heart is buried with frost

She looks down at her son
who paid with his life
he was oh so young
when he took to the skies

He flew up with the wind
so fast and so free
her child, without sin
just so pleased to be

She watched as he flew
his green scales in the sun
with an emerald hue
his life just begun

but he went to far,
alas, this was his crime.
Now he flies with the stars
until the end of time.

So she looks at his form,
soaked crimson with blood
and she cries and she mourns,
from her eyes, the tears flood.

Marching on upwards,
she hears hate in the air;
relentless and onwards
towards the maledict pair.

She looks on with a tragedy
that reflects torches they bear
knowing how it will be;
and not one will be spared.

She wants not for revenge,
for blood, or for death.
Too much of that stench
already sours her breath

bowing her head in a silent prayer,
she spreads her magnificent wings.
With a powerful beat she takes to the air
and the wind in her ears; it sings.

she is not a monster;
just a kind, gentle beast,
but, a devil they want
so a devil they'll meet.

She looks down at demons.
They took her son and want her.
She pities their souls
and her belly, it stirs

She breaths in so deep
and her belly does boil.
As she does so she weeps
while the fire in her roils.

She lets forth a roar
and an incredible blast;
a bright plume of fire
in which no life can last.

And once the smoke clears,
she see's what she's done;
become the creature they feared
and no one has won.

Her son still lies lifeless
and now they do too,
lives so so priceless
all taken, it's true.

And now she is a devil
shes the monster they feared
Her eyes empty vessels
where love once appeared

what she has turned into
tears her heart asunder.
What she has to do,
It hits her like thunder.

She breathes in once again,
her belly boils once more.
She thrashes in pain
as fire grows in her core

A gaze at her young
as she holds her breath in
marks a prayer for forgiveness
as she burns for her sin.

A golden eye, sharp white teeth and a breath that smells of sulfur and brimstone, blood red scales like painted armour plates providing near inpenetrable protection to a mystical beast.


Unrepentant rage, a body filled with fiery vengeance and yet it still exudes an eerie calm, the lull before the inevitable storm of incandescent bile rises up, a body filled with beauty yet capable of immense destruction.


Giant wings riding hot currents, a circling organic death machine flying high above the town, its silohuette causing panic amongst the townfolk, their inevitable deaths approaching with great haste.


Tails smashing overhead, a primal battle for territories between two great forces of raw power, the destructive capabilities of both plainly evident in the deadly battle, the forces of nature themselves unable to tame either of the great beasts.


Lightening strikes, throwing the death dance of the two dragons into light, creating a fearsome sight high above the ground, the townspeople staring in wide eyed disbelief, each one knowing that regardless of who wins, they lose.

Lords of the sky and masters of fire
standing next to them we cannot be sure
whether to cower in fear...or stare in awe.

Instinct screams to run, to fly to safety
that to live you must escape or plea,
plea to these things...these beasts.

I feel like we're wrong. that we could learn from them
to learn of the flame and sky would be worth every possible gem.
I will stay while other flee...and I will watch.

Watching them though, I can't help but feel moved.
They are free to go where they please, troubles all removed
these Lords of the sky...these masters of fire.

"Dragon in the Night"

She was a Black Dragon in the night sky,
Beauty glowed through her scales, and in her eyes.
Her natural aroma so enticing,
Still moving like a young playful dragon,
Fun and happy,
Always seeking Love for Eternity.

In human form, her flaws are unmistaken,
But she doesn't care.
Her beauty still glows to me,
The soft gentleness of her skin, her touch,
The way her bright blonde hair flows in the wind;
And the glares her steel blue eyes cast.
She doesn't agree.

This Black Dragon’s intelligence
So vastly widened, sticks out,
Like her big attitude and I don't mind,
I think it’s cute, sometimes.

I wonder if she'll be mine,
As I am a dragon seeking her Love for Eternity,
I, a black and purple dragon,
Have feelings for the dragon in the night.

Iit’s hard to believe because…
I didn't think it would happen to me.
For us dragons, we only pick one mate for eternity;
Even if I have to wait, it will be worth the time.

I am the Dragon God
Looking for Eternity
With the Dragon in the Night.

"Dragons"

Deep in the glens of countries below,
Roam dragons of color and cultures alone;
Afraid of the death that may divide or destroy them,
Gone into the shadows, they desperately wait,
Only hoping, one day, they may fly freely again;
Nothing to fight them, save the wind about their wings,
Savoring the taste of a future born in a transformed world.

As the Lambda falls on closed eyes,
The merriment of infinite wonder,
Brings forth tyranny within my life,
Seek not the power that resonates from your soul,
But the dormant hope that pulses to and fro,
If perversion is your best defense against yourself,
Then reevaluation may be best for your mortal self.

It's so hard to decide since I like three of them. *Pouts*

In all honesty though, the first one caught my attention of course, the length felt necessary but the flow wasn't always consistant, which was disappointing. I liked the story but.... I guess the flow was that big of a deal this time, it was in two or three spots. I like "Dragon in the Night" up until the end. For some reason the story was steady up until that last part. Maybe it just needed another line or two? Regardless great piece.

So... to avoid bias, I give my vote to #1

#5 and #6 are good.

But #5 because the line on #6: "Seek not the power that resonates from your soul,"

Everything else was good. That line would be embarassing even for Judas Priest.

I love old epics (Inferno, Beowulf, etc) when it comes to poetry and I couldn't help but read it like one. The other 5 entries were great but 5 really stood out for me.

Was between 1 and 4 for me. But 1 was just didn't have the flow needed for me to even want to finish it. Don't get me wrong I did finish it, But I felt like I forced it. So 4 gmv. It was just the right length, no to long nor to short. Pretty well written, and a nice story. <3 My one thing I didn't like was the title though. I needed a better title.

I'm gonna vote for 1. I really liked the word choices and the content. Well written and thought out. They were all good but that one really stuck in my mind even after coming back to them to vote i didn't need to re read it because i could remember it.

I was torn between 5 and 6. I went with six for the reason moulders went with 5. The power resonating line was a bit..... Angsty but I liked it a lot when put with the line that followed. I just thought it was a nice little piece. Good work poetry writing team, good work indeed.
