      Future Diary

Future Diary better known as Mirai Nikki is a fucking great anime, which I would definitely recommend!

      Story:
12 people who's diaries can predict the future have been summoned by the god Deus to take part in the survival game where they must kill each other, where the winner shall become the new god.
Yukiteru Amano, the main character is who Deus consider's him the favourite to win the survival game is somewhat a decent character, who is the first Dairy owner and has a crazy ass bitch stalker who, so happen's to be the second diary owner.
This anime is awesome, infect my favourite anime to date This is much better then Death Note, before some people start to bitch about that. I like Death Note no denying that it's a good show, but Future Diary has more to offer Story-wise and character-wise in my opinion.

Leave your thought about Future Diary on this topic, if you liked it or didn't.

      Re: Future Diary

I enjoyed it and would also recommended it, it reminded me somewhat of Higurashi in tone (although I prefer Higurashi personally) and has the kind of OTT gore and action that older anime had only with much better characters. Also it has a great twist that, like all good twists, is obvious when you think about it but conceals it well enough that you only guess it a few episodes in advance. My one complaint is that it is weighed down with tragic back stories for most of the cast which ends up diminishing the impact for each of them in turn and it's shifts between happy-go-lucky and grim are jarring but not in the sudden horriffic way Higurashi managed. The soundtrack is brilliant too, a nice mix of standard OST material in with chiptune, Trance and Rock.

Just to kind of help discussion, plus the fact that this is my first time hearing it....

How did you find Future Diary? What genre do you classify it under? What age group do you feel it would most appeal to? And lastly, where would you suggest someone to look to watch it if they wanted to?

I heard about it in reveiws, which lead me to it. I would consider it action style horror, for quite alot of mess up scenes. It will indeed appeal to ages 15 and over. The best way to find the series is to go on anime stream sites and type Future Diary or Mirai Nikki, which it is known as in Japan.

      Re: Future Diary

I first encountered it via a preview snippet I found in Fansub channels. I marathon series so I watched it in full once it had finished its run on Anime on Demand (UK based site akin to crunchy roll run by ANN).

Genre wise I'd say Psychological Action series as every episode that isn't action packed is very much about the fractured psyches of everyone involved. It's not as deep and questioning as say Evangelion or Monster, but it is still about the characters drives and experiences as much as their actual actions. Age group wise I agree with KingVen@Otaku land!, 15+ is probably the target audience - it's a but juvenile and very gory but not in any needlessly crass, exploitative way that would make it adults only.

Easiest place to watch it is on Hulu... it's only subbed.

Also, I heard they made it into a live action TV series up in Japan. If anyone knows where to find it to watch it via stream, that'd be awesome.

so can some people's diaries predict the future better than others or do all the diaries tell the people the same thing?

      Re: Future Diary

All the diaries can predict the future, but there is a difference in each diary. For example: Yuno Gasai's diary can predict Yukiteru's movements more or less. Don't want to give out to much, cause of spoilers.

      Re: Future Diary

To elaborate slightly: In essence the diaries don't predict the future so much as they show future entries in that diary - so Yuki's diary, which he uses to record everything he sees gives him entries concerning everything Yunos however only concerns Yuki (for reasons that become apparent in Ep 1). As a further, hypothetical, example: If a user were to say only record the outcome of sporting events then their diary would give them all the results from the future but nothing else (and now I want to watch Back to the Future 2).

Check it out bitches... found the live action version of the show. A bit different in terms of plot in regards to the anime, but its still part of the franchise. Its totally subbed and definitely awesome... really keeps with the spirit of the show. Only downside is Deus's portrayal. Guy looks like such a fag that I just want to beat the crap out of him.

      Re: Future Diary

Just finished watching the first season, which is comprised of nine episodes. They definitely changed the plot up, but it still contains the spirit of the anime. Fracking awesome. If they made an American version of it, the main character is definitely Matt Dallas through and through. For those of you that don't know, he played the titular character in Kyle XY. I read elsewhere that there's plans for a second season and I am totally bouncing in my seat right now.
