Re: Sci-Fi Week || Thread II || Pick of The Week!

Crest of the Stars gets my vote for a few reasons.

      1) The Abh are a very well thought-out empire with a complex history, language (that was actually created), and social structure that is explained well in just about every media they show up in.

      2) Jinto and Lafiel are both very well written for main characters with flaws and their growth is noticeable.

      3) I don't care how terrible the animation was for its time (2000) but I liked the introduction music, very Trek.

      4) It is a personal favorite show of mine...I have the manga version, DVD box set, and I even have a copy of the Tokyo Pop translated novels in English which was done in '06 for a series that was first printed in Japan in '96.

Ghost in the Shell for me. Not only is it a personal favourite but more than a lot of anime it's about the science aspect asking where the line between humanity and machine is for one but also gives food for thought on what memory is and how technology can shape our identity. Ok in the dub Kusanagi's voice actress was very wooden and the pacing is definitely not to everyone's tastes but there were still some fantastic gunfights, memorable characters, beautifully gritty artwork and of course that incredible soundtrack.
