      The Regency Tournament

Houses Miashera and Madorum were once united in the construction of the greatest city in all the lands of Talthea. Miasmador would become the star of the human lands and the centre point of the world.
Other Races saw the rise of the city and traveled to it to begin new lives and set up their own businesses and homes, and after a year or so, the city became packed with many different people and cultures. The majority however remained human and so did the houses who ruled over the city, despite accusations that other races should have a chance at joining the houses without marital claims and be able to rule over the city they now call home. But this was put aside by the Lord Merek of the house Madorum, who shared power with Rowan of Miashera over the city, who said that Miasmador was the only greater city of aetas (the human lands) and that any other race being in control of the city may tip the balance of powers between all the races and their lands in Talthea. However he was not unreasonable and set up a council of elected officails for each race, who would maintain the wellbeing of their people within the city.
Rowan, however, disagreed. He wanted to maintain complete dominance over the city and believed that Merek was handing their power out to peasants. Many days were spent arguing, intill a fight broke out between the two lords which lasted many hours. Neither opponant defeated the other however as they were both equally matched in skill and cunning. The fight had seen the use of words and attempts of persuasion towards each other, Skillful sword fighting, amazing shows of agility, and brilliant use of intelligence. This sparked the idea between the council members and called the lords to listen to their plan. They described how there could be a competition between the two houses, involving anyone under their name. each chosen member could participate in one of the four challenges like seen in the fight between them, and the house with the most victories at the end would acheive dominion over the city for five years from which the competition would begin again. Both lords agreed to the idea, but did not see the sly move that the council had played when they requested that, for the sake of competition, that they may assemble their own four competitors to compete in the challenges.
30 years has passed, and the city has seen the two houses and the council compete every five years for the right to rule. Although the council has never won and the two houses, who were once allied, now have become bitter rivals.

The time for the next competition is close, and each side is preparing their heroes for the challenges ahead.
They call it... The Regency Tournament.

Simple Cityscape rules apply, though Im pretty lax...

      Profile:
      Name-
      Age-
      Race- (nothing too alien)
Clan- (one of the houses or part of the council, or even another sort of allegiance. Although the houses are at the beginging restricted to human characters, but if your clever enough you can wiggle your way in with a good enough story...)
Appearance- (you can use links to pictures if you want)
      History- (optional)

The story will revolve around the tournament, but you can be whatever you want and have any goal you please. Try and think of this as a Discworld and A Song of Ice and Fire mash up.
AND, note that none of the houses or the council are evil or good, (unless you change them to be throughout the story) even though it seems like Merek was the good guy and Rowan the bad guy, they are actually just men with diffrent opinions...

      http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...G8onwUyjPP5Mdl
History- Eadrik is the son of Lord Kendra Madorum. He has ample skill with a blade and has proven himself in battle many times, but is still seen as a beginner to war.
He wishes to enter the Tournament in his houses name in the battle competition.

Eadrik had just finished his training for the day. He had been having sessions everyday now that the Tournament was so close, and he wanted to be fully prepared. Though he did not know why he truly wished to participate in the games as his farther was lazy, and even with his jolly first impression, he had a short temper. These were no traits a king of Miasmador should maintain, but he was the leader of his house and for the sake of honour, Eadrik would try his best to win.
As he climbed the stairs towards one of the high towers of Castle Madorum he recalled that those who win in one of the four competitions were issued a new status in the kingdom. For if he was able to win the Battle Competition, and his house succeed at regency this year, he woud become the new General of Miasmador's armies. This lifted Eadriks spirits, as the honour of becoming the General may have his farther issue him his own estate and some land outside of the city, from which he will have control over. The thought of the new powers he would be entitled too excited the youth and he rushed up the remaining stairs, out onto the top of the tower. There he stood overlooking the busy city and all the people within it. behind him the blue coloured banner of his house blew in the wind, with the Hawk Symbol almost alive with its movment.
Eadrik looked to his left, where several miles away stood the Castle Mishera with its high walls, turrets and red flags also blowing in the winds.
He wondered what competition there would be this year...

      Name- Clara Belefonte
      Age-18
      Race- human
      Clan- Miashera
      Appearance- CLARA
History- Clara was born to Maria and Harper Belefont, a noble family who stood closely behind the Miashera clan in support. She was preened from a young age to be not only a lady but a valuable fighter also, though her experience is merely in sparing and show she has become excellent win swordplay. She holds little allegiance to anyone but her parents, often rejecting their ideas. this has kept her out of the competition but put her under the councils watchful eye.

      ~

Leaning against the still warm stone of the turret, she could not help but note the heavy wind this day carried. It pushed her hair around her face in and messy manner as she fiddled with a small piece of glass. She, unknown to the others, had been reflecting light to the neighboring castle to annoy the guards. It had been her only bit of fun lately as her training was growing more and more complicated.

Her father pushed her to greatness, hoping that he could use her to become part of the great clan he fawned over. That wasn't something she saw in her cards though. He argued at times she would be the ruin of them all, that it should have been her lost rather than her hero of a brother. It was his death that put her into a warrior's existance. Merely a replacement for the lost son, yet she could be traded and bartered for at his discretion. So yes, she secretly got a kick out of blinding people for a moment and sending code in flashes of light to people who did not understand.

She tilted the glass, catching the sun. perhaps today would be more amusing than the last.

@PrincessLUV Sorry I cant see your picture of Clara... it requires a password?

As Eadrik watched the neighboring castle, he saw random flashes coming from one of the turrets. Well, he assumed they were random, as he had no knowledge of signal communication. But the strange thing was that it was coming from the Mishera Castle... what would anyone of them want with us in secret? Prehaps there was a spy in this castle that was cummunicating to the other via the flashes of reflecting light!
Eadrik peered over the edge of the tower down onto the battlements below. He saw no-one out of the ordinary down there, just guards who at times, raised their hands to their faces. Ofcourse. Someone was shining light into the guards eyes in there spare time.
This amused Eadrik, and while the person doing this must be a rival for them to be within that castle's walls, he strived to be able to contact this mysterious pranker. He knew that the Guard Captain Eleana, was able to communicate using signals, but he feared that if he left to find her he might miss the person at the opposite castle. Instead he grabbed a smaller flag from the battlment of the tower, and began waving it in the direction of the flashing.
It had been a long time since he'd had any kind of adventure!

      Re: The Regency Tournament

((ooc: sorry about that, it is public now. Had the wrong link in there))

She could barely see them like little ants, flailing arms about as the light hit their eyes. It was hilarious. The guards on her side paid no attention. To them, it appeared she was leaning over the stone staring into the distance. Instead she ws attempting to hide a snicker and stop her armor from clinking against the wall in her throws. Overall, it could be said she was having a decent time. Better than working on her defense at least.

Looking across the way, something caught her eye. Someone was waving a flag. Was someone actually paying attention to her actions. Usually her actions were mistaken for the sun off of someone's armor. She stopped a moment, aiming for the wall next to the mystery flagger. Something felt exciting about whatever this was. It made her want like a hawk or something to just send over ridiculous messages and screw with people even more. Pushing back her hair she aimed at the man, he wanted attention, he'd get it.

Eadrik shielded his eyes. He'd deffinatly achieved this persons attention, but now had no idea what to do next.
At this moment the door behind Eadrik that lead into the lower areas of the castle opened, and there was Eleana, Captain of the guards at Madorum Castle. She gestured to the flag that Eadrik still held and said "My men spotted you waving that around frantically... is everything allright with my lord?"
"Eleana! Nevermind that right now. Do you carry a mirror?"
The guard captain nodded, and retrieved from her satchel a small mirror.
"Now, do you see the flashes coming from our neighbours over there? Well whoever it is is trying to make contact, and if you would help me in comunicating with this person I would be most grateful..."
She nods again "I shall translate whatever signal is sent to us, and you shall tell me your response so that I may signal it back."
"Thank you! Please signal that I say... how about... Hello! And who the hell are you!?"

      Re: The Regency Tournament

Someone was certainly coming back at her with signals now too! Until then she had not had any real communication with 'those people' but this was intriguing. There were two tiny figures now from what she could tell.

"They want to know who I am?" The blonde whispered to herself. There was no good in giving herself away just now. It would have been more fun, more secretive if there had been but one. Now she just felt like trouble was going to come.

She flashed the message, 'A captive of a dull life who finds you amusing stranger. who the hell are you?' A stiffled chuckle as she leaned further, almost blending into the grey walls as the guards passed by unaffected by her actions.

      Re: The Regency Tournament

After Eleana had translated the message, Eadrik stared over to where the person was. He then turned to the Captain.
"Tell her that Im also finding life dull at the moment... As long as you are not too much of a captive and that if you wish to learn my name you could head to the market place in an hour. There we will play a little game... We must find one another going on nothing but our conversation and instinct."
Eleana signals the message across and says "I guess you will want me to keep this a secret my lord?"
"Yes, if my farther were to think I was talking to Miashera, his rage would be uncontrollable. Thank you captain."
Eadrik turned for the stairs. He had other business to attend to in the market that needs doing. Hopefully the stranger will attend the game, and perhaps, prove to being of friendly nature aswell.
As he was dressed in his simple training clothes and carrying his sword, he will look like most reasonably wealthy youths of Miasmador, and there will be nothing that will stand out as coming from the Madorum house. Yet he could not be sure if the other person was familiar with his families appearances, and as he sought to not be noticed by the public either, he grabbed a cloak from the smaller armourie to the side of the castle gate.
Pulling the hood up, he wanderd into the city.

(OOC. Sorry but I'll be away for a week and abit... I would love more people join soon)

      Re: The Regency Tournament

((ooc: i too was hoping for people to join, we'll see I guess))

Clara turned and slunk down against the castle wall, sinking until her bottom hit the warm stone. She watched the guards chatter at each other for a few moments and thought about the suggestion. It could be a trap, but who was clever enough to fool those in foolery? She smirked turning her head to the sky and offering up a silent prayer for her adventure before popping up and making her way back inside. She flew down the steps, not getting much attention as that was her usual nature. First, she would make her way home.

There was little time left by the time she was rushing through the great house of her father. Her family did have quarters in the castle but all her clothing there had the livery of her family. In her room she dove into her wardrobe for a decent cover. But then she stopped, surrounded by her clothing all now on the floor she stopped. Training wear. It was ambiguous to the clans and allowed her to fit in with the many warriors in town. She slipped into it and looked down. It was obvious that she was from a noble family but not which. Her coloring was not uncommon but it she did think her facial features were unique to a certain group of people here. She sighed and headed out anyways.

Town was bustling. She knew she was barely on time for the game. Her first move was to chat up some young men who complimented her sword then to buy a sweet fruit. She wandered around a bit, eating the fruit and playing with passing children. It was something she did often enough and it made her realize that if the person who was seeking her out came here often they had possibly passed many times. She would not stand out. That means they would!

I will win this game stranger, she thought, handing over an apple to a small and slightly dirty child who gave her a wide grin and revealed that baby teeth had been lost. Maybe she should have cut it up but the kid was already running off. Taking a moment she looked around, her bright eyes scanning the area for anyone who looked...sneaky?

      Re: The Regency Tournament

      ((Ask and thou shalt Receive!))

      Profile:
      Name- Adrian Falconer
      Age- 16
      Race- Human
      Clan- Miashera
Appearance- Adrian stands at 6'1", an impressive height for most people, especially considering his rather youthful age. He has a lean build, lithe rather than powerful, though he's by no means weak. His feathery, light brown hair and thoughtful golden eyes make for interesting accents to his rather fair skin, which betrays his sheltered childhood. His height, coupled with his proud posture, causes those unfamiliar with his house to mistake him for someone in a higher station, this, depending on the situation, has been both a blessing, and a curse. He is usually seen in old, brown, leather armor, worn out by use in various battles its previous owner had found themselves in. He wears an old, black cloak over the armor while in public, which tends to disguise his lithe build thanks to the voluminous folds of the cloak and his own broad shoulders. He's rarely seen without a longsword at his side, though he tries to keep it out of sight.
History- The son of the former captain of the guard, he always found great interest in soldier, knights, and combat in general, though his mother was fairly adamant he keep his involvement in combat confined to book study, telling him that strategists are just as vital to combat as those that fight in them. While he fairly skilled with a sword, it's his skills as a clever strategist and shrewd tactician that drew attention to him as a possible contender in the tournament, though his naivety to the true nature of combat and lack of proper experience was as much of a detriment to him as his youth might suggest.

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~
      Adrian leaned against the wall of a shop in town, he stared at the inside of his cloak's hood, barely able to see the legs of those who walked up to him. He was lost in thought about the upcoming Regency Tournament, and whether or not he was going to take part. It didn't really benefit him to take part in such a competition, but it might prove to be an interesting test of his abilities. He heard someone buying fruit at the shop whose wall he'd been leaning on, she sounded vaguely familiar, but most of the people in town at this time were regulars, so that wasn't unusual. He let out a light sigh and pushed his hood back as he straightened. He came around the side and bought an apple for himself with a smile. He took out a small dagger, cut off a wedge and picked a direction to walk in. His eyes drifted freely as he ate the wedge, looking at anything which caught his eyes. He saw a young woman in training attire give an apple to a child, likely the same woman who had bought fruit just before him. Again he felt as though he should recognize her, but he shrugged it off and kept walking, cutting another wedge from his apple.
