      Yami's Sketch Book

Drew some new sketches the other day so figured I'd upload some I have in my PB account and start my own thread in GFA

Things to note: I am abstract, mostly shapes and lines. I also really struggle with proportions and lines from left to right, a lot of that has to do with my eyesight so pointing it out to be would be silly. I'm pretty casual in my drawing sometimes doing rough sketches (like my newest two) where I could care less if the lines flow well. I'm not seeking critical advice, more I want to share my work and get what you feel or think about it.

I like to open all my art threads with this fun image

Cause stealing art is bad, hey a book is art too! IT APPLIES!

Drew this two days ago, can see some serious flaws in some of the lines even for my rough pattern. Would fix but its pen so mistakes happen and you live with them

Was drawing and felt a nice design popped out eventually so cropped the image and did a bit more detailing of the central image

Drew this for Ehryn as a secret santa or something I forget. Titled it "Color of your Soul" I think

      Random design

      another one

Abstract take on a flower in the sun, I actually really love this pieces composition and feel its a good representation of my style

Was with my son in a restaurant and he wanted me to draw him something so colored on the back of a menu. Kinda liked it so scanned it as a fun piece

      another random design

      more random line drawing

My abstract take on the female form. Its supposed to represent life as the woman has roots and such...yeah....abstract

So did this sketch as a cover for a friends college art magazine as he wanted something abstract. I cleaned it up and colored it for the cover but liked this sketch more than the final as it felt more raw and alive to me as a piece

      Random nothingness on paper!

A Propaganda style thing I did for an ALer once, kinda loved it and always have. He wanted something that symbolized the working class and craftsman. Think I did really well honestly

Just a random backdrop I made at some point, colors and lines are win

Titled Nun to this day this has always been one of my favorite things I have ever drawn. It symbolizes the internal religious conflict those of faith have to deal with, over coming your doubts and that which challenges your faith to grow even stronger in your spirituality

      You haz art threadings!

There are quite a lot of pieces here so I'll what it all in one go.

I think you have a very unique style when it comes to abstract and line drawings that with a little paint would look really nice. Your style also reminds me of the patterns I see in church windows with the lead and stained glass and your coloured pieces add to that. I like that some of the work actually has some meanings rather than it all being random which personalizes it.

Overall, it's nice to see something different rather than characters and manga-style all of the time and I hope you post some more. =D

I'd deffo paint more if it wasn't that much more expensive and time consuming over pencil. I prefer charcoal as my medium for the most part but tend to not splurge on art supplies my kid can easily run.

And no graphics, manga style, or character drawings from me. Props to the people who can do that but legit not something I have ever been able to manage in like the 15 years I took art classes

I remember when I saw your abstract for the first time lol
It's still the same. Good job

My favorite would still have to be the nun though

Nun is one of those pieces that makes you stop and think I feel, same with my Abstract Woman which when I look at it (and others have pointed out to me) it has different perspectives at times

      Re: Yami's Sketch Book

After seeing you advertise your sketch book in your sig, I came here to see what I thought would be awful. Was pleasantly surprised by lack of Manga style characters but some of them look far too basic, like they were drawn by a 10 year old kid.
I do like the Hammer and Anvil, it's quite a distinctive look.

Now for the Nun, I'm torn between thinking it's sort of okay and a body with a load of scribbles. "It symbolizes the internal religious conflict those of faith have to deal with, over coming your doubts and that which challenges your faith to grow even stronger in your spirituality " How on Earth it does that, I'll never know. If you can care to explain how a faint body outline with a load of scribbles symbolizes that, that will be great. It does look striking but can't see any deeper meaning.

Hehehe, I'm ever so tempted to make a 'with friends like these' pun.
I must agree though, refreshing as it is to see a different style in a sea of manga fanart, it is hard to see the symbolism in your pieces.
Art is self-expression however, so as long as it means it to you, that's what's important I suppose.
I mean hell, just look at Pollock.

Nice to see you postings things, Yami!

You have a very unique style. I don't think I've seen any art like yours in the whole time I've been modding this section. I really like it!

Your work with color is especially good. You pick your shades really well, and everything goes together.

      Color me impressed.

      /terrible pun

Literally the most accurate post ever made about GFA.
