There needs to be a rock band tournament, and some level of shooter contest.
      Basically less beat 'em ups

A mario time trial would be good as it can run all weekend and the in game leader board does all the work.

Though an actual none-Mario reaching game would be fun too.
Even if these different tournaments only get 5 or 6 people its still fun

Re: VG Shrine - The Rundown of Events for Alcon 2012

A rockband tournie should be an obvious one. Though can I ask for the option to include keys? I was pretty annoyed it got left out at Kita. Its not like you cant play the bass/guitar parts on it too if people want to do a non-keys song...

A shooter would be fun, but choosing the game would be the biggest problem. Im going to selfishly also add on Black ops zombies to this just because I love me some goddamn zombies. See which team can get to the highest round. You would just need someone to take not of map, team and round then.

Some old stuff would be fun. Screw with peoples basic understanding of how shooters are supposed to be controlled by putting them on South Park (PS1)?

I think an xbox with some of the best indie games (or games that make you rage) would be fun. Like super meat boy or the impossible game or techno kitty adventure or ninja (fucking D8<) sneaking. Indie games need more appreciation because there really are some AMAZING ones out there.

A racing game would make a nice change. I guess the mario one isnt too bad but maybe a real one could be introduced? And maybe other sport games too? I get we're anime nerds but we like things that arent just 'spam this button to win' beat 'em up crap that the games room is usually full of.

Just a nice variety of different games with, maybe, a section that isnt for a specified game but more a cool down section with a choice of different games.

Re: VG Shrine - The Rundown of Events for Alcon 2012

Kayleigh the issue with RB keys is that to make a band set list with enough decent songs on keys means you neep copious amounts od DLC and even then there is about 2 good songs that have enough keys and other instruments parts to get points.
I say at least have the keys to play day to day.

XBLA games require an internet connection to play more than the trial vetsion (indie or otherwise)

Zombies contest sounds fun as you can do each map highest round over weekend, like mario carts time trials.

South Park on the ps1? Bring it on, I can thrash that game as you well know xp

Also , make it so rock band/guitar hero DOESN'T over power the rest of the vg room volume wise, because I want to hear my gaming both normally and in contests.
Setiously, a halo tournament where you can't hear your own gun is b/s, same for the GoW one.

Do a Gears of War 3 wingman/brothers to the end tournament

Re: VG Shrine - The Rundown of Events for Alcon 2012

Would it be worth having a few pairs of headphones kicking about so people can listen to the sound personally if they want the volume up.
Then if there's a tournie going on they get priority over general sound volume and the rest have to use headphones if they really need sound.
That way your halo tournie can have sound up but also the rock band tournie can have sound up when its their turn.

Gaming headphones are expensive sadly, and generic ones aren't great.

They should use a bigger room or put the loud music games into thier own room and idk, put beat em ups or racing games in there too as they dont need sound up high as much, then have shooters and rest in seperate room

I'm pretty sure people could deal with using cheap headphones. It's a shared space so they have to compromise.
If it means being able to hear your music while playing guitar hero etc and without annoying others then I'm sure people would do it.

It's something for them to think about at least cause the games colliding with sound volumes is an issue that's been brought up a few times. And apart from splitting them up into different rooms like you said, I can't think of another solution.

Re: VG Shrine - The Rundown of Events for Alcon 2012

Evening guys! Thanks for the responses! I'm well chuffed! Okay, let me go through the posts and respond to them as best as I can! ^.^

A mario time trial would be good as it can run all weekend and the in game leader board does all the work.
This we can certainly do, considering the ease of setting up a Wii. Its certainly something to be considered for a long weekend event (Finishing at say 3pm on Sunday with the winner potentially announced at the closing ceremony. Sounds like a good plan to me)

Though an actual none-Mario reaching game would be fun too.
Even if these different tournaments only get 5 or 6 people its still fun
Sometimes, they are. But I like to have lots of people involved. Call me old fashioned, but these things are meant to be social gaming, you know?

A rockband tournie should be an obvious one. Though can I ask for the option to include keys? I was pretty annoyed it got left out at Kita. Its not like you cant play the bass/guitar parts on it too if people want to do a non-keys song...
I'm sorry, but I do have to agree with Kanada here. Finding good songs for the KB is a pain in the butt... Not to mention that I don't actually own (Nor have I seen offered) a KB for Rockband/GH. I personally don't mind spending a little cash, but... For ease, I'd rather keep things as simple as possible. Though its certainly something to consider for the future.

A shooter would be fun, but choosing the game would be the biggest problem. Im going to selfishly also add on Black ops zombies to this just because I love me some goddamn zombies. See which team can get to the highest round. You would just need someone to take not of map, team and round then.
Yes. I'm hoping to get some LAN setups with XBox 360s for things like Zombie Call of Duty and Halo and such. Again, good idea and I'll have a natter with some super special friends (@Deathtopia ) to see how possible this is to do. Probably next week in fact, when we meet up for the pre-meet.

Some old stuff would be fun. Screw with peoples basic understanding of how shooters are supposed to be controlled by putting them on South Park (PS1)?
Well, I can confirm that there is going to be a Retro Zone specific at Alcon, hosted by Retroactive, which will contain a lot of the older consoles, games and awesomeness <3

A racing game would make a nice change. I guess the mario one isnt too bad but maybe a real one could be introduced? And maybe other sport games too? I get we're anime nerds but we like things that arent just 'spam this button to win' beat 'em up crap that the games room is usually full of.
Yes! Absolutely! Especially if we allow time trials, same car, same track, make notes of best time kinda stuff. ^.^

Okay. This one is actually difficult. People are more than welcome to bring in their own equipment if they want to game privately... However, a convention is hardly the place to be solitude in your gaming experiences. I like to hear people chattering away about their things, which is hardly endorced if people are sitting on a console with a pair of headphones on playing away. I'm going to say, for the moment, that this just isn't the setting I'm hoping to achieve. Sorry. However, that doesn't mean that I'm not going to listen. I am hoping to keep the louder games (RB and so on), seperate from the quieter games. That's my hope, anyway... Or just put it on a TV that can't be fiddled around with volume wise, which was the main problem last year at Alcon.

For the moment, I think that covers all the questions that have already been given! If you want to ask me something directly, feel free to page me, otherwise, keep it up in here and I'll respond when I can ^.^
