GD Lifestyle Event Topic: Proper Eating

      Lifestyle Topic: Proper Eating

There is more to eating than simply dieting and avoiding fatty foods. This topic is to discuss all the various aspects and research involved in proper eating such as proportions, self control, the effects of certain foods on the human body. Feel free to also post mental techniques as well in this thread to help people maintain their eating goals.

For me my biggest issue is eating in a timely fashion. I often eat only once a day which places my body into a state of famine retaining what I eat as fat. Going past that the research on how food effects us on a genetic level interest me the most and will be something I'll be looking into over in April as well as planning out my meals and coming up with a means to remind myself to eat on time.

      so we never forget

Re: GD Lifestyle Event Topic: Proper Eating

I eat whatever I damn well please whenever I feel like it.

      Had some fried rice today.

      And I think some cereal.

      I really like cereal.

It's been a while since I've had any fast food, but I like a tasty burger when the mood strikes. And some delicious beverage to wash it down.

I think I'll make some of that fancy chili tomorrow. It's good over rice with melted cheese on it.

Veggie burgers look, feel and taste like hockey pucks.

I know this because I did a taste test.

And I don't know what kind of mean McDonald's uses. I think that's the last place I got a burger from. Quarter Pounder with cheese. Don't know what kind of cheese that is either. Probably some kind of by-product that happens to be cheese-like.

      Still tastes all right.

But yeah, those are some good cereals. Well, Apple Jacks anyway. Golden Grahams can get tiresome very fast. Life gets too soggy but it's not bad if you are in the mood for something bland.

Like I said I eat whatever I feel like eating.

Vegan shit is straight fucking hipster food though.

I once went to a restaurant and the only kind of cheese they had was goat cheese. I asked the waiter why and he said it was because it was the trend these days. A rare occasion where I ordered a burger without cheese on it. And it was a really terrible burger anyway. Overpriced and served on this weird bread.

I don't even know why I was at such a place to begin with. I think I erroneously took someone's suggestion and tried a new unfamiliar place.

      That never ends well.

Re: GD Lifestyle Event Topic: Proper Eating

when you say proper eating I naturally think of eating etiquette, I think when you're eating around others there are a few unspoken rules you need to abide by. Awarness of how loud you're eating is key, how much mess you're making and if you're in a workplace then how smelly you're food is (tuna or egg sandwiches) also things like excessive burping and farting around the dinner table are just totally inappropriate. I think its just common courtesy, when I'm eating my food I wan't to enjoy it and not be put off it thanks to the person sitting next to me.
I live with a guy who is guilty of all of this and I think it's why i feel so strongly about it because it has got to a point where i can't sit in the same room as him when he's eating because I feel physically sick.

Maybe if I hadn't eaten in a few days.

Ketchup does not jive with turkey.

Maybe. It's no club sandwich but the taste of it wouldn't make me want to disembowel a chef on general principles if that's what you're getting at.

Re: GD Lifestyle Event Topic: Proper Eating

I hate vegetables, they all taste bitter to me,.same as fruit. The tart aftertaste is enough to make me ill.
I dont like red meat, large portions of meat, or big fillets of fish. I am INCREDIBLY picky.
      Im also alergic to egg.
As a result what I do it is processed to hell or starchy.
Any advice? Im about to enbark on a diet.

      What do you eat?

You sound like you're basically limited to pasta, legumes, and potatoes.

      Do you take vitamins?

What fruits and vegetables have you tried? Because that's pretty hard to believe. Bitterness and sourness are two of the five basic flavors your tongue can detect, which are only produced by certain foods.

I have to believe that you either have some sort of medical condition, or that you've primarily only eaten citrus fruits and vegetables in the cabbage family.

I eat whatever I damn well please whenever I feel like it.
      This.

But Reno I swear to god I will fight you if you call things chili that aren't actually chili.

Putting chili over rice is blasphemy.

Apples, pears, strawberries, bananas, oranges... Even dragon heart (cus the name was cool), passionfruit, cranberries.. All of them taste alright until a few seconds after eating, where my tongue just shrivels up like ive eaten sherbert. It could be a medical thing, an intolerance maybe, but ive never looked into it.

As for vegies its a similar thing, except the taste is imediately bad, be it peas, carrots - anything!

And I pretty much live on pasta, rice, tuna, chicken nuggets and potatoes. :/
      Its boring.

Re: GD Lifestyle Event Topic: Proper Eating

I would suggest you start taking a daily multi-vitamin, if you don't already do so. One with iron, calcium and zinc. Those are all bad to be deficient on, and the latter two actually effect how well your taste receptors work. That could explain why most things taste bad to you.

Even if it doesn't help in that regard, it would still be a good idea, for maintaining your overall health. Starchy foods don't give you much in the way of other nutrients, and the chicken nuggets probably don't give you anything of value. The tuna is about the only thing you're getting much from (which probably also includes too much mercury, unfortunately).
