Hentai and Yaoi panel feedback

They didn't exactly go according to plan, and a few things that were planned didn't go due to a few problems out of our control. (Plus didn't help the panels were being done on both lack of sleep and exhaustion) So I figured to improve and get an idea on what is wanted in future, to make this thread.

So apart from all plots going tits up... what do you believe was good or bad about both?

I know the panels were enjoyed by some, and loathed by others.

We tried to do something different, and it seemed to have a marmite effect. I had more than a few people come over and tell me they thought it was fucking hilarious. and obviously I upset a few people too. I do apologise, as I was not intending to offend anyone, but create a fun and silly take on something.

So if you were offended, I am deeply sorry. It was not intended.

We did have more than a few things planned for the Hentai panel. but due to exhaustion from main crew duties by the saturday night... we were running short on energy. Not that we had a chance to show it off, but Dawn was actually cosplaying as Futa. We also had a really funny introduction to play at the start, but again, it never got played. We had plans. and i know more than a few were disappointed at there being no contest, again, this was down to last min prep and lack of time to get something thrown together.


If anyone would like to provide us some constructive feedback, then perhaps next year if Dawn and I run it again we can cater it slightly more to taste.

personally I thoroughly enjoyed both panels and found them hilarious it was a shame there were no games like last year's panels - and it would definitley be good if they returned next year - but I still enjoyed the panels a lot and they were a laugh. I liked the yaoi that was shown this year a lot more (pervert that I am). so thumbs up from me and my mate who I know also enjoyed the panels (but she doesn't really come on the forums so I know she won't say herself on here)

The yaoi screenings were good (two of my personal favourites in fact) and the slideshow had some nice content (the Sonic x Tails pic was hilarious). There's nothing wrong with 'raping childhoods', in fact it's generally expected (and enjoyed) at these things The content itself was good, yes it was a shame to not have games like the caption competition but it's understandable if you're busy with other things. As long as there's good yaoi that's the main thing

However, I felt that there was an almost constant commentary over the yaoi screenings; well-timed remarks are good but to me it felt like an onslaught. For me it was like someone in a cinema talking while you're trying to watch a film, but with a microphone. As you say though, it's a marmite thing. Some people liked it, others didn't.

I said this to you before, but I thought the Yaoi panel was hilarious. I can understand why some people would have hated it, (I know my bf gets annoyed when I talk during things lol!) but it genuinely made me feel more at ease.
I like watching yaoi but most of the stuff I watch doesn't show everything so I was a little nervous about attending, but making light of it as you both did made me feel a lot more at ease because pretty much everyone was laughing along and not taking it too seriously.

Again I can totally understand why people may not like it as I went to a screening of Death Note last year at another event and everybody else talked all the way through it and it was annoying as hell! But that being said I think a whole group of people interuppting a viewing of a serious anime is way worse than having funny sound effects during something as pervy as yaoi (especially the second one that fat guy was grooooooooss).

I think the only thing I could say is what pretty much anybody else will say, a caption competition, or maybe like you have to write down your favourite canon and non canon pairing and then the grossest pairing you can think of? Something extra like that, but like you said, it was last minute and there was exhaustion involved so I don't blame you for missing out on something like that this year.

I was super gutted there wasn't a caption contest in the yaoi panel this year, mainly because I thought of a really good caption as I was leaving the panel last year and I have been saving it all this time XD

I like watching yaoi but most of the stuff I watch doesn't show everything so I was a little nervous about attending, but making light of it as you both did made me feel a lot more at ease because pretty much everyone was laughing along and not taking it too seriously.

This is the first year they have really gone full haul and shown EVERYTHING so the random commentary was appreciated, especially since my friend was whispering to me during... apocolypse? 'Oh my god, this one scared me for life, there are things in here that should never have been drawn' XD

And on another hilarious note, we persuaded our guy friend to come into the panel because we told him it was relatively tame... and then he got a nasty shock XD

Hmmm....thing is, it didnt feel like a panel, it felt like a screening....i heard there was technology issues, but when i think yaoi pannel i think a few games and maybe a look into various types of yaoi, not just 'here, look at porn for 2 hours' (thats what the internet is for )

Also, some people liked it, but our group absolutly hated the sound effects and talking (....since it was a screening, i'll compare it to if someone talks at the cinema....) we wanted to leave, but you guys were booing people who did....so we stayed. If it had been sensible commentary and not at earsplitting volume, it wouldn't have been so bad.....possibly next time keep the screening section and the talking section separate. ie chat away about something relevant to the topic, then show porn, then chat some more or play a game/have some audience interaction?

Sorry, but you wanted honest opinions.

Was a funny panel though, and as much as I cringed, I did enjoy it. Missed the caption competition from last year though. Was good fun. But I appreciated the efforts you guys put in. I was surprised (but not shocked, for the record) at how much more graphic the Yaoi panel was this year. Good choice of series though. As a couple of other people said, it would be nice to get the caption competition or something like that rather than a strait screening. I like the idea of grossest pairing, although stuff like that sometimes stumbled since not everyone has a broad knowledge of all the popular anime series. Or we could have a good old game of guess whose Uke.

Only saw the first bit of the Hentai panel. Another well picked series, pretty funny.

I'l be compeletly honest; the yaoi panel just wasn't...a yaoi panel...

Me and my friends didn't enjoy it so much, and it felt like a screening room. The first yaoi shown was brilliant and we laughed through that gem, but the second one was pretty long and boring (except for the yaoi, haha) and I did groan alittle when the commentators admitted to not wanting to skip ahead because there was nothing else to fit the time slot.

Another thing was the commentators just constantly kept talking. Sometimes it was really funny, and who doesn't love the old slurp noise at a kiss or pop when dick meets ass XD but it was just too much speaking and it was alittle annoying when you did want to focus on the porn on screen

I know theres a constant joke that as people leave a hentai/yaoi panel they're made fun of either being faint-hearted or off to the bathroom to relieve themselves but you guys were pretty harsh on them this year xD

Lastly, like I said, it just felt like a screening. If there was more of vairety of clips, the good ol caption contest or even afew prizes or so for inbetween competitions (for example, Amecon had couples come down from the audience and be as gay as possible to win a yaoi manga. At Auchinawa, audience were involved again by being given a card with a phrase/word related to yaoi, and that person had to draw it on the whiteboard and people had to guess the word. Just other yaoi-panel experiences and games that could be played in the future )

But on the positives I did enjoy your first shown yaoi, and despite your techincal glitches, I'm glad you guys went ahead with it. Probably the greatest improvement from previous ALcon yaoi panels was how graphic the yaoi was this year! Nevermind the faint-hearted-lose-my-childhood people, it should be dirty It's porn, at the end of the day.

I agree with the marmite thing, and I hope next year will be filled with much much more things!

(And I have two requests for the hentai panel 2012: The DragonBallz, and that really bad X-men porn from afew years back.)

Those do sound good (I would rock at the readings, already do Yaoiory for my friends, which they seem to find funny XD)

As for the hardcore good/bad thing, it was probably good. Its definately not my thing, but I could cope, and it gave my friends enjoyment, so its all good. And its an 18+ panel, so its acceptable to play it neways. May aswell give the fans what they want...

And Oh God! Just remembered that sonic and tails pic again...sigh, childhood memories forever ruined
