Re: Most annoying battles/fights/encounters in a game(or games)?

There are some games which literally put you in a fight where you can't actually lose. For whatever reason. Be it that the opponent doesn't do any damage, or that you have an ally that will kill them with or without you, or if there's a cutscene once like one turn has passed, where one of your characters does something that kills the enemy.

Yeah, I've played a few of them

Probably the most obvious would be the final boss in FFX, though apparently you can lose if you're really unlucky

But I also hate games where they don't take difficulty curves into account

What do you mean by your last sentence? I'm confused.

Difficulty curves are essentially where a game should increase the difficulty as the game progresses.

There are essentially games where the difficulty at the beginning is ridiculous, and yet by the end seems really easy. The appropriate version would be the opposite, where it starts out easy (so you get used to the game and it's mechanics) and develops into a relatively difficult game.

But yeah, it's just a random term really

Fighting against Paul Phoenix in Tournament Mode on Tekken 5 on the hardest difficulty. I manage to beat everyone besides him...

Agree with all of the FF comments. There is normally one boss in every FF game I have played that I am underprepared for and wipes me out without even trying. At first, it was really disheartening..but now I am so used to it that once it happens and I take them out, I celebrate knowing it;s prolly just gonna be so simple from here out.

Also, hate the bosses from any game that have an autokill move. Usually they give you one or two deathproof items in RPGs but often I have a bigger party and so the one without the deathproof item tends to get hit and then I'm shit out of luck. Thats just so annoying. Really boss? You're gonna randomly attack and autokill the only one who can be autokilled....figures. -_-

Mizar. The final boss for Jet Force Gemini on N64. A boss that I still haven't beaten to this day (Partly because my N64 and copy of the game dead by fire). Mizar is one of the hardest, most frustrating bosses of any game I've played.

      That is all.

The most annoying boss for me is the final boss in The World Ends With You (awesome game, go pick it up now!), he is the only boss you fight alone and in the beginning of the battle you do shit damage (lvl.1 damage in other rpgs) and as the battle progresses through it's 3 'stages' you start to do more damage but the boss' increases to an insane amount. You fight using pins, they are your means of attacking, healing (limited to only 2 or 3 uses), and 'defending' so for this fight you need 2 attack pins and 3 healing pins (or 4 if you were lucky and bought the final slot before it became unobtainable until you beat the game). And to prove my point this battle is hard as hell, the secret final boss didn't come anywhere close to the difficulty of this guy and the secret bosses are the hardest of them all; For the record this is a Square Enix game.

It isn't the Final Fanatsy series that is notorious; It is Square Enix in general, all of their RPGs suffer from this flaw.

LotR The 3rd Age: The Battle for HELMS DEEP
Not exactly a single boss. Just think of it as a set of 4 battles (Each with about 15 enemies) with no rest periods in between to level up your party or use potions outside of combat. It took me about 10 hours of gameplay for me to figure out how to beat it.

I haven't played this game in a while, loaned it to a friend and starting to miss it but I don't remeber fighting any pig noise to get to him
GRANTED I haven't played the game since march, so I can't remember much about it except that 'Another Day' is the funniest and best level of the game.
I swear from the first line of that day I was rollin trying not to piss myself

Ninja Gaiden II on the hardest difficulty.
Ninja Gaiden for some reason is one of the most difficult games that I've ever encountered in my life, I even get pissed off when I played the first one on the original XBOX. If you want a break-down scale:

      Normal = HARD MODE.
      Hard Mode = IMPOSSIBLE MODE.

Maybe I'm a noob gamer but my arrogance led me to play the game on "Impossible Mode" if I may call it. The game became a total pain in the ass even for the first boss that you face (forget his name) but that dude is like freaking 200 ft. tall with two blades and you think "Oh he's so easy!" but then you'd get your ass kicked with ease. All of the bosses in the game are proven to be very difficult but overall the game was an enjoyable play. Tried to beat it, never really worked out as I was stuck on the last boss of the game. I tried to find a modified version for the XBOX360 and I managed to fine one through MODIO but then the game file became corrupt and I had to start all over again. Never, shall I go through that hell ever again.

Any given SNK boss on the hardest difficulty. Or Johann from Rage of the Dragons.

I have never and will never understand why people cite FF games.

FF bosses have never been hard. The closest they ever come to being "hard" is just when they have so much HP that you have to fight them for an hour, which isn't hard, it's just tedious. Any FF boss, including optional ones, can easily be shamed with some simple buffing/nerfing/status ailments (assuming they aren't immune to everything) and a healer or two. From there you can also take it a step further and make sure you gear yourself specifically for each boss, like making sure you have armor that makes you immune to zombie when facing a boss like Yunalesca (one of the most overrated bosses in JRPG history, difficulty-wise), but I generally don't find it neccessary to do things like that, or to take for-fucking-ever setting up overly complicated strategies in FFT. But really, the easiest way to beat any FF boss is to just grind for levels (which itself is always really easy in FF games), simple as that. Aside from bosses that were specifically designed to have to be killed in a certain way, I don't recall ever having to employ a strategy other than "normal attack it to death" for any normal FF boss, and many of the optional ones. Even when they attempt to add something for the sole purpose of being difficult, like the arena in X or the soul place in the GBA remake of VI, they end up failing. The closest they ever came to making legitimately challenging bosses were a few of the marks in XII, and most people hated XII too much to bother doing them.

I mean, some people make that weird "Yeah, but I rush through the game at the lowest level possible to make it harder." argument, which, yes, would make it harder, but you could do the same thing with any other JRPG as well. You'll still have an easier time doing it with FF than with pretty much anything else. And at any rate, as long as the possibility of being able to easily defeat the boss exists, you can't really qualify it as being hard.

@Sabata - I have to agree with you on the FF bosses. It's the same with Kingdom Hearts bosses and the Persona 3/Persona 4 Bosses, the only way to beat em is just literally go on for an hour.

The only other annoying battle that I know I got annoyed on was actually Metal Gear on MG1 (HD collection version) where you had to put the bombs in certain places. Damn hard and sometimes near damn annoying.

any battle you encounter in a game called "A witch's tale" They arent hard, just boringly long thanks to the insanely high HP each Freaking enemy has.... i mean, you could go about fighting a normal battle for 5-10 minutes each encounter unless you overlevel yourself.
