    I am pleased to announce that we will be hosting our first DOTA 2 gaming tournament on AL!

    Here is the rundown. We were graciously provided with two Steam game keys for the new game Strike Suit Infinity created by Born Ready Games. What is Strike Suit Infinity you ask?

    In Strike Suit Infinity, players fight to stay alive as long as possible against a never-ending army of enemies, with the intention of surviving each round and climbing as high up the leaderboards as possible. Each round is comprised of numerous waves of enemies, which get progressively harder.

    In order to reach the top of the leaderboard, players will need to successfully chain their scoring to increase their score multiplier. The multiplier will decay however, so players must maintain rhythm while quickly despatching enemy ships.

    Between rounds, players can use credits earned during combat to purchase reinforcements. Reinforcements range from Interceptors and Fighters all the way up to Cruisers and Frigates – challenging players to make strategic choices to get to the top of the leaderboard.

    The ship designs in the game are from the renowned Mechanical Design engineer Junji Okubo. The Japanese artist is known for his work for games such as Infinite Space, Steel Battalion and Appleseed.

    The music in the game is a collaboration between the Canadian award-winning composer and sound designer Paul Ruskay, especially known for his work for the space strategy game series Homeworld, and Japanese singer/songwriter Kokia, who also contributed music to Tales of Innocence and Origin: Spirits of the Past. The result is a great soundtrack which intensifies the gaming experience.

    Being that we are the VG Section, all of us here behind the scenes figured it would be an awesome idea to distribute the two provided keys to those who can prove their mettle in a VG tournament! The game that was chosen for this tournament is the popular game called Dawn of the Ancients 2, or DOTA 2 as it is more affectionately known.

    The tournament rules and info are as follows:

    1. Teams will consist of two players each, and will face off against another pair.
    2. The game mode of each match before the finals will be determined by the participants before each match from a set list of possible game modes. Those unable to decide will have their match set to All Random.
    - The possible game modes are All Pick, Single Draft, All Random, & Mid Only.
    3. To win the match, you need to overcome your opponents and destroy your opponents' ancient.
    4. The tournament will be decided in a bracket format, with a qualifier during the week beforehand if there are an ample number of signups.
    5. All matches must be witnessed by a tournament official (K7Sniper or Angelic Prime, more officials may be added before the official start).
    6. There is currently no ban on any specific character choice, though this may change before the tournament begins.
    7. Each team will be allowed one medium-level CPU teammate that will be chosen by random. The CPU teammate may be removed if both teams wish.
    8. The final round will be an All Pick - Mid Only match, with no CPU teammates.
    9. The tournament is single elimination, with the exception of the finals.
    10. The winning team will receive one game code for each teammate. The runners up will both receive 15,000 credits each if they are on AL.

    Signups will be held this week, and being that there are actual prizes being awarded, SIGNUPS WILL BE CLOSED WHEN I WAKE UP ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 22ND (AROUND 6 AM EST). So, you have an entire week to prepare and practice before then. Any qualifiers will be scheduled Thursday-Saturday before the tournament, with the final bracket beginning at 11 AM EST on SUNDAY MAY 26TH.

    To sign up, simply post here with your team name and your members (AL names and their steam handles). I will keep an official list here in this topic, and only teams listed here will be allowed to participate. We will cap the number of teams at 8. Any additional teams will be added to the list as a fill-in replacement for the qualifying rounds only (The quarterfinals, to be technically correct). If a team fails to make it to any qualifier, I will go down the list of fill-ins for a replacement. If there is still no opponent, then that squad will be automatically advanced. If any team fails to show up for their match in the final four bracket or the finals, they will advance. If someone for some reason doesn't show up for the final round, then the losing semifinal teams will battle for a place, and the tourney will become a double elimination (meaning that the one who made it normally only needs to win one game, while the losing semifinal teams will need to win 2 to win it all). If we fail to reach 8 teams, those who are available will play against each other until the top 4 teams can be determined, perhaps via a round-robin system.

    Many matches will be recorded via Twitch TV, and DOTA 2 contains a pretty good spectator mode as well. If you don't have a copy of DOTA 2 and wish to participate, contact either K7Sniper or Angelic Prime, and we will try to accommodate you with one of the free keys we have. There are a limited number, so first come first serve.

    Also, all participants need to have K7Sniper on their friends list on Steam in order for quick communications.

    WHERE: On Steam in the game DOTA 2
    PRIZES: Two (2) game codes for the new game Strike Suit Infinity, created by Born Ready Games

    You don't have to be a scheme leader to decide any longer. Now, Staff and Assistants can vote for other staff and assistants.     Crazy League's Egg Hunt & Werewolves!

    It's that time of year again, and Crazy League has gotten a little carried away. With bunnies delivering Eggs, it's no surprise that your explorations for the next three days may have you spotting eggs. If you see "CL" labeled on those precious eggs around the board it must be a Crazy League Egg! If you want to collect these eggs, then all you really need to learn is how to claim their prize, so peak into Crazy League and learn what it takes! 32 Eggs over the course of the next 3 days! So keep that stomach hungry!

    Speaking of Hungry, Crazy League's villages seem to be in unrelenting strife! For every four villagers, there seems to be a wolf problem. If you think you can out best the wolves, then please, sign up to join one of the many games. There's even Special Coupons if you refer a Friend who actually signs up too! Those nasty wolves need to be taught a lesson and the villagers need your help. The Werewolf game is a reoccurring game, when you die, you can sign up for the next game. However, if you find this game to be overly addicting, auto sign-ups are available and convenient for all.

    Author of the Month - March 2013

    Hi guys, we are going to have one thread every month discussing an Author whose work is either Public Domain and available online or an Author we can choose which we can read at home. This month we chose an Author whose work is Public Domain and we’ll be providing a link from which you can read as we progress through his work. We’ll also provide a small blurb with information about the author and the book we are going to read so you’ll have some background to start your reading.

    Each month we’ll choose a new Author, suggestions are welcomed for the month of April.

    You can catch up with us at any time or read the parts you like best with us and discuss them here.

    This month: we chose Dante Alligieri and his master piece The Divine Comedy.


    Dante Alligiere was born 1265 and was a major Italian poet of the Middle Ages, in Italy he is known as il Sommo Poeta ("the Supreme Poet") and the father of the Italian Language. Dante like most Florentines of his day was embroiled in the Guelph-Ghibelline conflict and fought in several battles; he was also a member of the Apothecaries Guild which was not an inappropriate choice since at that time his books were sold from apothecaries’ shops and his participation in this guild assured his participation in public offices. As a Politian he accomplished little but held various offices over some years in a city fire with political unrest.

    Finally his faction the Guelphs won but the group divided in White Gulephs (Dante’s faction) and the Black Gulephs which yeah … started another struggle leaving the Black Guelps in power; Dante took part in several attempts by the White Guelphs to regain power but these failed due to treachery. Dante bitter at the treatment he received from his enemies grew disgusted with the infighting and ineffectiveness of his erstwhile allies and bowed to become a party of one.

    At this point he was in exile and conceived the Divine Comedy.

    The epic poem is believed to written between 1308 and his death in 1321. It is widely considered the preeminent work of Italian literature and is seen as one of the greatest worlds of the world literature. The work was originally simply titled Comedìa and was later christened Divina by Giovanni Boccaccio. The first printed edition to add the word divine to the title was that of the Venetian humanist Lodovico Dolce,[8] published in 1555 by Gabriele Giolito de' Ferrari.

    But it was not always so, there was a time when it was not even considered fit to be translated into English, even less so to be promoted in Harvard or any other house of study. The Italian language was not considered useful in those days and it was mainly taught to young ladies and youths considering a year travel through Europe. It was Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s translation and close work with other historical figures such as Oliver Wendel Homes, Sr., James Russell Lowell and others who finally brought this classic to the Americas.


    The Divine Comedy is divided in three canticas: Inferno (Hell) Purgatorio (Purgatory) and Paradiso (Paradise) each consisting of 33 cantos. The poem is written in first person and tells of Dante’s journey through the three realms of the dead, lasting from the night before Good Friday to the Wednesday after Easter in the spring of 1300.

    We start reading Inferno dividing the 33 cantos in half which means that we’ll be reading from Canto I to Canto XVI this week.

    Dante's Inferno is hell. It's clunky, hedonistic, want a be of God of War. Outside of the neatness of turning a literary work into an interactive one, there isn't anything worth while. The best moments come from these moments of awe and wonder on how they integrated these ideas. Something that only shows when they stop trying to be God of War, and it is a walk threw hell. In every good or horrible way, it is hell. The most joyous moment was when the end credits rolled, and was done with this hell.

    The walk threw hell is interesting. The best moments come from how this sin is integrated into the world. Though after a certain point, were bored with the idea. Its easy to tell, because its when the game gets boring. Where it excelled visually, soon becomes bland pandering. See how shocking we can be, we have you killing babies. Look tits, vague vagina designs, look dicks. See how dirty we are, cause its hell.

    From that, we have the descent into bad gameplay. The worse thing about it, is its good ideas that have flatten out of any grander. Death scythe for example, this is a weapon gain from killing death. How great is that? Yet it turns into a hammer knife. A hammer with a knife, that is the best you got. Not going to try for something to match the gratuitous of death himself. Well however stupid it may be, if it works maybe it is great. When you see him flopping from one enemy to another, its a wonder to see how it can be a threat. Its not, the best weapon is actually a cross. Which you use to save souls. Well this bag of tricks, don't seem to be cool. What can we do, oh I know we can have magic like God of War. Even that tends to go the stupid route. The orgasmic screams from Lusty boss to shield smash your foes. That be cool when comboing. Which even the slush of killing prove to be nothing but repetitive hell.

    Maybe if it is boring and repetative, it might have cool boss fights. Outside of Death, no. The first bad ass boss fight, making every one else a let down. The Devil himself is nothing compared to that. Just the power of christ with a cross is all you need. Each boss, more and more a disappointment. The hardest thing about the fight with the devil, quick time events. Which come up everywhere. Even to go threw a door, you got a quick time event. Not even the fun kind, the boring you have to hit b button long enough to hide the loading. Even hitting it faster does nothing, and if you just keep hitting it the same you fail.

    A tourchious experience from beginning to end. It is curiosity to see how anyone can enjoy this inferno. It is nothing but hell. Taking on that experience is the only reason why anyone should play it. Any game after that walk threw hell, be paradise. Which may make it a rent to some, just to see how bad it is. Otherwise I avoid that hell.

    Hello, I thought its about time for something a little different, so I was looking around the forums and with a little help I came across a new clan, The Freelancers. I felt obliged to share my discovery with you all and help promote the clan a little bit.

    The Freelancers is a great a new clan that formed on 30-Nov-2012 and is dedicated to the decision of anything Anime and Manga related, Including new release, both in Japan and the UK. As well as older releases, covering everything from mainstream titles to the more obscure. In addition The Freelancers are also support the Anime & Manga Section with new topic threads and events.

    My first Member Spotlight is for a dear friend of mine ImmortalJed. My experiences with Jed have shown me that he has talent, he is a selfless person. Even though he himself refuses to see how good he is, many of us remind him how good he is. This spotlight is to display to all visitors of Anime League just how special he is and the impact he has had on people.

    Interview with: ImmortalJed

    Q: What would you say motivates you to write your poems and stories?

    A: A lot of things, my poetry is mostly emotions and I write them as I go.

    Q: I see that you are a MOD. What section do you MOD? Also why this section?

    A: I Moderate L&W and GD. L&W because it was where I first felt at home on AL. It's full of incredible talent and amazing people. GD I signed up to help out after one of the other mods stepped down, and it's good section to discuss your views on various topics, such as news and current affairs.

    Q: What impact have you had on your section thus far?

    A: L&W, I personally feel not that much. I have a high post count, and I try to review everything that is posted.I try to come up with new ideas for the section too, such as the Camp fire Challenge that we ran on Halloween last year. GD, I've tried to help with new ideas, and I've posted up an Automotive Discussion thread, so people can discuss cars, bikes and motorsport.

    Q: What would you say is your best moment on Anime League?

    A: Hard to say, I was quite proud to be modded if I'm honest that was a pretty big moment for me.

    Q: Is there any advice you would give to those who wish to follow in your foot steps?

    A: I would say that you need to just keep yourself active, be friendly and be yourself. Most of all, be yourself and try to help if you can, regardless of your status

    Q: What are some of your future plans in your section?

    A: Currently working on a cross over event, which is being kept hush hush at the moment as well as a Choose your own Adventure story. Which should be starting fairly soon with any luck.

    His activity and friendliness has been an achievement in comparison to other mods who had a lot going on. He has a lot going on but he loves the section and that is one way to impress me.

    Jed is one of my very good friends on here who I talk to regularly like you. Plus, he is just plain awesome!

    So in closing, it appears he is a selfless person and is open to helping others with their issues and is a very hard working MOD. I dedicate this spotlight to Jed in the hopes that after reading this everyone will see Jed and see his good works. Hopefully Jed realizes how special he truly is and how lucky we are to have him as a friend and MOD in Literature & Writing and General Discussion.

    Some things comes around pretty quick one such thing in the New Year, and with the New Year the announcements for the Anime League Video Games Awards 2012 Winners! I know it doesn't seem that long ago we were making our nominations, this was back on Boxing Day last year, and time really does fly by, as the nominations soon closed on the 12th of Jan. Then we were all voting for which games and publisher we wanted to take the top spots in each category which were:

    EZ January and February Events

    EZ January and February Events

    With a new year comes new events and just like the rest of the forum Entertainment Zone is also running events throughout the first two months.

    The first is the EZ Awards, with nominations beginning on the 18th January closing on 22nd January. Nominations can fall under Movie, Books, Music, Sport/Activities and Television shows, each one in turn being broken down further into subcategories. Anyone can make nominations so please head over to EZ Award Nominations. Once all nominations are in then voting will commence on 23rd January with winner being announce on 28th January.

    The next even are relation to major sporting events one for Wrestling then the next on the Super bowl, the betting threads will open roughly one week in advance of the events. For the betting, those are the only two events planned right now. It will be pretty much anything major or that members are showing interest in.

    On February 1st, our Art Showcase will begin which is our third. The basic idea here is that weekly or biweekly a thread will be created about a piece of art. This will rotate between famous works and pieces submitted by GFA. Then, we will spend time discussing that artwork. We aren't all art students, so there's no need to feel like you need to give an in depth, technical view though you can if you're up to it. We just want to expose ourselves to more things, broaden the horizons of EZ. Hopefully we'll learn something along the way and have a lot of fun too.

    There's info about the art showcase here. It will actually be done with help from MCA and GFA, alternating between famous works and member pieces.

    GUESS THE MEMBER - A NEW GD GAME!
    Get To Know is a fun game we all adore, but it's begun to lose a bit of it's spark, so this is a new spin on an old favorite!


    How To Play:
    1. Ask questions.
    2. For every 3 questions you ask, you are granted one guess.
    3. Use the answers to your questions to guess the mystery member!
    4. Guess correctly and receive an awesome prize!


    Rules:
    1. The Guess The Member thread (aka GTM) will last one week.
    2. You must ask 3 questions to be granted 1 guess.
    3. No more than 3 questions may be asked per post.
    4. If someone guesses correctly before the week is up, the round ends and the next game begins.

    If you saw dozens of butterflies hovering above you while you are shopping in the high street, then there is a good chance that you will be in for a gruesome surprise. You might even want to grab your baseball bat (Not that we have one lying around, but you can improvise!) or head to the nearest park and scrounge around for a large piece of tree-wood-thingie... you get my drift!

    'Now why would I need that?' you ask.

    At this point we may just gently place our hand on your arm in a comforting manner and say with very little emotion, 'It is time for you to fight. And fight you must or you will die.'

    However, we may ignore that bewildered look of yours and then just nudge you in the right direction.

    Soon you will see the horror that awaits you.... in the dark night... there... just in front of you...

    Oh! You may want to grab a friend or two to help you out, but under no circumstances can you avoid what will happen.

    RED GARDEN    - is certainly not a typical anime in the sense of overly cute characters, or amazing fight scenes, however, the fighting that takes place is gruesome in it's own way, so if you don't enjoy violence, then I wouldn't suggest this anime. Saying that though, the first episode opens with a very colourful introduction that keeps in line with where the story takes place- New York. It has that girlie-designer feel to it, so it was definitely different for me at least.

    Once the episode starts, titled "Farewell Girls" we are greeted with a man in one car and a blonde woman in another car gaze at the other while the cars pass by each other. Seems a bit suspect and once the camera zooms out, we also see a sleeping girl in the car with the blonde woman, all wrapped snug in a blanket. Her hair looks disorganized and that is where it even gets weirder as the girl is taken to an apartment by two men and placed in her bed in this unconscious state as it becomes apparent. We see three other girls meet the exact same fate as they are taken to their homes and then a fifth girl that was in one car was suddenly attacked...

    At this point I was going 'Huh!?' and watched in eager anticipation how this story would unfold. But as luck was not on my side, it appears the episodes don't tell you - the viewer- everything in one go. So it leaves you hanging and later you meet the four teenagers properly as you are introduced to them and their lives.

    So what do you think happens to these four girls once five other girls were discovered in the woods near their school? Was it really a case of suicide like the reporters said? And why couldn't they remember what happened that one evening?

    Overall the story has been quite enjoyable so far, and it is definitely different in terms of animation (look and feel) along with the obvious fact that it plays out like a typical drama story as it follows the girls around and what happens in their lives. Refreshingly it also appears that these teenage girls are very human with emotions they can't control, fears that escalate to points where it renders them helpless and situations that might even make you sniffle once or twice. Okay, and even I have to admit... I actually liked the singing. Yes, there is singing... believe it or not. Think Moulin Rouge style.

    If anything, this story will keep you glued to your couch because you will want to find out exactly what they have become...

    So watch it and tell me what you think.

    Anime/Manga Couples
    All entries must feature two or more characters from an anime/manga in a romantic/lovers scenario. Yes crossovers are allowed. Your lovers can be any combination of genders. Put them in a scenario at a romantic restaurant, an outing in the part, a lovers passion, what gets them fired up or even what they do behind closed doors. Show their love and affection for each other and don't forget that this passion can be dark and twisted. Maybe there's a third party in the way or trying to get between them. Just remember that these couples are part of a popular population in Mangas and Animes, so don't be afraid to stretch it some.

    Deadline is January 31st.
    Voting February 1st - 7th.

    Writing of the Month!



    This Month's Writing Form: Short Story
    Genre: Fantasy
    Setting/Location: High School


    All entries must take place in a high school setting and must have a fantasy theme. A short story should be minimum 2,500 words. The genre "Fantasy" is a world full of the mythical and imaginative. Whether they be based on creatures of Myth like Dragons, Goblins and Elves or The cute things we dream about like Pegasus, Faeries, and to some Gods & Goddesses. Fantasy is also something that may define science, like a world enchanted by magic, full of opposing colors, where the sky is normally blue to humans, it's pink to unicorns. Fantasy is far and in between the creases of our minds and we find them all the time in the stories we trek in when we read. So take a dive into a fantasy filled world and share your spoils with Literature & Writing Members!
