So I was recently playing a game, Aliens Colonial Marines to be precise, and my A.I companion was literally some sort of Demigod.
So I just completed the game and this guy never went down once! Along with that he had a Smart gun, which if any of you know about it know how kick ass it is. So I could literally sit back and let him mow through the levels.

I found this quite disappointing (Well, A: CM was a rather disappointing game so I guess that's no surprise) as this game rarely offered any challenge with him around. I often ran out a way ahead of him just so I could take things on on me own. I was thinking about increasing difficulty but I was at the point where I just wanted to finish the game.

I'm aware there are some games that make good and fair use of A.I companions.
For me, Mass Effect made the use of companions very well balanced with various different strategies making them a real handful at times yet they were always prone to being 'downed'. But yeah...

What are your thoughts on Video Game A.I companions? How do you think they should be programmed?

After watching the new xbox one reveal event i feel i am one of the only pepole happy with the console and the direction it is going in it would seem to me that people are rather upset over a few things such as the same old games argument ( call of duty and fifa being the main 2 ) and backwards compatibility
This honestly worries me when it comes to the community i love and have been a part of from the NES days and onward it wold appear that people have not been expecting this!?
After all was the xbox and the 360 not a slow movement into a more home entertainment based box? I don see how people have not seen this coming when the evolution has been in front of there eyes all this time
Console gaming has changed to a more casual market of family's and gamers who enjoy a great media experience and the more casual game mainly being the FPS and sports titles
Have people forgotten that the hardcore gaming platform has never been the console? it has always been the PC ..... right!!??
When i first started to really get into gaming i remember my dad had brought home this huge CRT monitor and tower and i played doom and quake for hours on end before discovering online game play on the only 56k dial up ( hey remember those days of waiting hours to connect and game play terribly laggy but still captured the imagination when graphics where not an issue it was all about who had the better stats and finding the little hidden Easter eggs ? )
I spent many hours of my youth on a pc playing MOH and other great pc titles
the point i am getting at is gaming has always and will always be about the PC
xbox one ps4 and wii u face it there consoles and there doing what the console has evolved to do be a casual yet fun entertainment and games center that you can simply pick up and play
And just as a final point i have always been a strong believer that if you want to play retro play it properly play the games on the console they where built for get some friends over some good food and a good beer and catch up on the great memory that console gave you

The Sega Mega Drive - Sega's answer to Nintendo in the 1990's. While clearly the inferior system out of the two (I'm talking about the Super Nintendo here) the Genesis had quite a few good games and/or ports to speak of. There were also some great original IP's for the system that carried onto future generations (Shining Force specifically, Sonic is a no-brainer.)

Now I ask you, VG. What are your fondest memories about this 16-bit machine? What are your worst memories? Favorite games for the console? List them all here. Also post pictures of your collection if you still have your beloved device. I'm in the process of re-purchasing all of my old games that I sold a while back, so it'll be a while before I get pictures. However, have at it anyway in the meantime!

Also, for future reference: I will be posting separate Super Nintendo, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, NES, N64, and Playstation 1 "greatest memories" threads later on this month, so stay tuned! This is only the beginning, my friends. Haha!

This was announced early yesterday at Arcsys's "Arc System Works Festival" in Japan. Guilty Gear XX2 Reload was one of the first fighting games that I really dived into and learned a lot of things about. I was by no means competitive but it drove me into the fighting game player that I am today. Seeing this HUGE transition for the series into this new visual has me really really excited. I love that they are adapting the 3D on a 2D plane, but also keeping it very faithful to the original sprites that they used. If this trailer is showing how the gameplay is actually going to flow, then I am even more excited. Surely, it'll be a lot different when it's released but this seems like a good idea of what they are trying to shoot for. The flashyness of the fighting really syncs well with the really over the top rock induced gameplay that Guilty Gear is known for. I can't wait to hear more about this game, really pumped for this announcement :D

I know these threads tend to come up every so often, so I want to start a numbered list so we can keep track of the number of threads we have in regards to this topic.

The purpose of this thread? Share your favorite video game tracks and why you like them so much. Remember that there is a one video limit per post, so if you have any additional songs to share, just put them as links below your main video (remember to have titles and composer names if you know them!)

With that out of the way, I will start. Here's one everybody should recognize (hopefully):

Kingdom Hearts - Forze Del Male - Yoko Shimomura - 2002

When this game came out, I was only 8 years old. I watched my brother play it when I was younger, until I finally got around to playing it at age 11 (2005.) I honestly believe this is one of the best tracks in the game, if not the best. The premise around the battle was epic as well. Finally facing off against Riku (or was it Ansem? It was Ansem) for Kairi. Nothing more motivating than that, is there? Beat the bad guy and save the girl.

I still listen to this track every so often when I need to get pumped up. It just has that 'feel' to make my blood boil.

So what were your opinions on the new Nintendo Direct shown today? There will be one more before E3 starts. (Makes sense now why they won't have a big conference unlike other years).

Here's a run down of today's event:

New Super Luigi U:
-82 new levels (with high difficulty levels)
-Time limit under 100 seconds
-Play as Nabbit from NSMBU. Indestructible character in terms of taking damage from enemies. Will die to falling, crushing, poison or lava hazards.
-$19.99USD for the eShop version. $29.99USD for a physical copy

Pikmin 3:
-Characters have a name: Alph, Brittany and Charlie
-Olimar and Louie most likely not showing up at all
-Crash landed on Earth (no surprise)
-Hocotate has a famine issue now, sent to bring back food to your planet to keep people alive
-Food and juice are the main focus here, run out and you die
-7 Pikmin shown (1 more said to be announced)
-2 different play styles (GamePad and WiiMote Plus)
-Organization heavily based on GamePad playing, toggle overhead views and directions with a few taps

Other News:

-Yakuza getting a Wii U edition. No longer a Sony exclusive (1&2 getting a HD port)
-Nintendo E3 demos will be available at Best Buy, trying to bring in more of an audience who can't go to E3. A tactic to sell more Wii U consoles most likely.
-Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons will be available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop for $5.99 each. However will go for $4.99 until mid June
-New Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games announced for the Wii U
-New Sonic game announced for the Wii U

Not satisfied with the amount of money they make from their consoles, games, accessories and online store; Nintendo have decided to step things up. Now they have decided to take the revenue of lets players. As people may or may not know, people who earn off youtube do so by ads coming up just before we see their footage. With Nintendo's plans this means these people who put up their passion for gaming online to share that passion while earning will no longer be able to earn any money. This means they'll have no jobs and will be unable to afford both money and time wise to do what they love the most.

I personally think Nintendo have gone too far and should stop this "you should feel honored" bullshit. These people spend hours playing these games, editing and uploading the footage to youtube and other places. All Nintendo has done is make these games and consoles. I think it is just disgraceful. I am not a LPer but I do enjoy watching a few, who I support by disabling my adblock temporally for them when I view their videos. So the fact that Nintendo is pulling this shit is just unbelievable. I wanted to believe they were one of the few decent video game companies but after this I think they'll have to go on my shit list. =/
I was just wondering if anyone else played this? It is a really addictive game and very interesting too. I love the artwork and they just finished doing a Grimm Brothers boss week. In that week you could get rare cards from different fairy tails and fight bosses who are usually the tale's bad guys. I am not sure what theme they are planning next time but I look forward to it. :<3:
I am pleased to announce that we will be hosting our first DOTA 2 gaming tournament on AL!

Here is the rundown. We were graciously provided with two Steam game keys for the new game Strike Suit Infinity created by Born Ready Games. What is Strike Suit Infinity you ask?
Each round is comprised of numerous waves of enemies, which get progressively harder.
In order to reach the top of the leaderboard, players will need to successfully chain their scoring to increase their score multiplier. The multiplier will decay however, so players must maintain rhythm while quickly despatching enemy ships.
Between rounds, players can use credits earned during combat to purchase reinforcements. Reinforcements range from Interceptors and Fighters all the way up to Cruisers and Frigates – challenging players to make strategic choices to get to the top of the leaderboard.
The ship designs in the game are from the renowned Mechanical Design engineer Junji Okubo. The Japanese artist is known for his work for games such as Infinite Space, Steel Battalion and Appleseed.
The music in the game is a collaboration between the Canadian award-winning composer and sound designer Paul Ruskay, especially known for his work for the space strategy game series Homeworld, and Japanese singer/songwriter Kokia, who also contributed music to Tales of Innocence and Origin: Spirits of the Past. The result is a great soundtrack which intensifies the gaming experience.

Sounds pretty awesome right?

Being that we are the VG Section, all of us here behind the scenes figured it would be an awesome idea to distribute the two provided keys to those who can prove their mettle in a VG tournament! The game that was chosen for this tournament is the popular game called Dawn of the Ancients 2, or DOTA 2 as it is more affectionately known.

The tournament rules and info are as follows:

1. Teams will consist of two players each, and will face off against another pair.
2. The game mode of each match before the finals will be determined by the participants before each match from a set list of possible game modes. Those unable to decide will have their match set to All Random.
- The possible game modes are All Pick, Single Draft, All Random, & Mid Only.
3. To win the match, you need to overcome your opponents and destroy your opponents' ancient.
4. The tournament will be decided in a bracket format, with a qualifier during the week beforehand if there are an ample number of signups.
5. All matches must be witnessed by a tournament official (K7Sniper or Angelic Prime, more officials may be added before the official start).
6. There is currently no ban on any specific character choice, though this may change before the tournament begins.
7. Each team will be allowed one medium-level CPU teammate that will be chosen by random. The CPU teammate may be removed if both teams wish.
8. The final round will be an All Pick - Mid Only match, with no CPU teammates.
9. The tournament is single elimination, with the exception of the finals.
10. The winning team will receive one game code for each teammate. The runners up will both receive 15,000 credits each if they are on AL.

Signups will be held this week, and being that there are actual prizes being awarded, SIGNUPS WILL BE CLOSED BEFORE THE FIRST MATCH ON SUNDAY. So, you have an entire week to prepare and practice before then. Any qualifiers will be scheduled Thursday-Saturday before the tournament, if needed, with the final bracket beginning at 11 AM EST on SUNDAY MAY 26TH.

To sign up, simply post here with your team name and your members (AL names and their steam handles). I will keep an official list here in this topic, and only teams listed here will be allowed to participate. We will cap the number of teams at 8. Any additional teams will be added to the list as a fill-in replacement for the qualifying rounds only (The quarterfinals, to be technically correct). If a team fails to make it to any qualifier, I will go down the list of fill-ins for a replacement. If there is still no opponent, then that squad will be automatically advanced. If any team fails to show up for their match in the final four bracket or the finals, they will advance. If someone for some reason doesn't show up for the final round, then the losing semifinal teams will battle for a place, and the tourney will become a double elimination (meaning that the one who made it normally only needs to win one game, while the losing semifinal teams will need to win 2 to win it all). If we fail to reach 8 teams, those who are available will play against each other until the top 4 teams can be determined, perhaps via a round-robin system.

Many matches will be recorded via Twitch TV, and DOTA 2 contains a pretty good spectator mode as well. If you don't have a copy of DOTA 2 and wish to participate, contact either K7Sniper or Angelic Prime, and we will try to accommodate you with one of the free keys we have. There are a limited number, so first come first serve.

Also, all participants need to have K7Sniper on their friends list on Steam in order for quick communications. My name on steam right now is Dr. K7, though searching for K7 or K7sniper should link you to that as well.

So, to recap...

WHEN: Sunday May 26th, 11 AM EST (4 PM GMT)
WHERE: On Steam in the game DOTA 2
PRIZES: Two (2) game codes for the new game Strike Suit Infinity, created by Born Ready Games
SIGNUPS CLOSE BEFORE THE FIRST MATCH ON SUNDAY.

With all that being said, if you are interested in signing up, post here with the team information or PM K7Sniper.
