Would you like to have a chance to be celebrated as one of the UKs leading cosplayers? Launching at Manchester Anime & Gaming Con this 2-3 April, the UK Cosplay Championship will take place at over a dozen conventions and events in every region of this country. The finals will be held at Birmingham Anime & Gaming Con on the 1-2 October and the winner will receive a 250 cash prize along with the UK Cosplay Championship trophy.

Check out our www.cosplaychampionship.com website for full details and where we will showcase every finalist as they qualify.

The UK Cosplay Championship will not adversely impact or complicate existing cosplay masquerades rules will remain the same as our standard rules. All you have to do to qualify for the finals is to come 1st, 2nd or 3rd in ANY cosplay masquerade at our seven upcoming conventions (or at other registered qualifying events). If you qualify then you are not obliged to enter the finals. We want to keep this as simple, easy and non-scary for cosplayers as possible! Those that qualify, in addition to their usual prizes, will also receive a full weekend ticket to Birmingham Anime & Gaming Con so they can take part.

There are two ways you can qualify for the UK Cosplay Championship -

#1. By placing first, second or third in any of the masquerades that we run at the qualifying conventions (at most conventions we run a cosplay masquerade on both days). In addition to the usual prizes, you'll be given the extra option of qualifying for the finals. Finalists will receive a free entry to Birmingham Anime & Gaming Con in addition to their normal prizes.
#2. We run free meetups and small events across 25 cities in the UK. Some of these have a cosplay contest at them - the first placed pick will also qualify for a place in the finals.

We have lost someone very dear and important to us. Earlier this week our head of press and guests Becca Moriarty was found tragically passed away after having an epileptic seizure in her flat. Becca was just 24 years of age and had her entire life in front of her - what happened was devastatingly without reason and utterly unexpected.

As a community we must come together and be strong. It is the only way that we can handle this devastating loss. London Anime & Gaming Con is next weekend, where most of Becca's friends and colleagues will be attending. We would like to address what we shall be doing -

We would like to talk about this first at our Opening Ceremony on the Friday at 7pm. While not everyone knew Becca, we feel it is important the event as a whole knows what has happened, which is very important. A book will then be put out at the registrations desk that anyone who knew Becca can write in and express their thoughts, memories and sorrows which we will give to her family.

On the Sunday, we will be holding a private Memorial Service in the downstairs backroom (the anime that is normally shown there will be cancelled). This will take place at Sunday 1pm and last for about an hour, possibly longer. Anyone who knew or who was friends with Becca is invited. We would like this to be a space for people to express their feelings and thoughts and to pay tribute to her memory.

Everyone mourns in their own way, but we request that it is done with respect for Becca's wishes. Becca would not have wanted people to have let what has happened spoil people's time and enjoyment. She would want everyone to enjoy the event and for mourning to be with a calm-dignified sadness and sorrow, not with despair. Some people will understandably struggle, but we will try our best to help them through this so that this is done the way Becca would have wanted.

Epilepsy is a terrible condition, with over 600,000 people in the UK alone suffering from it. For 2016 our official charity for all of our conventions, including Alcon will be Epilepsy Action. We would like to try and raise as much money as possible toward this to honour Becca's memory, as well as help make future tragedies less likely. If you wish to donate in the meantime you can do so here.

Becca is forever in our thoughts. She was someone who was genuinely selfless and wanted to help everyone. She added heart, kindness, empathy and loyalty to a community and to a world that desperately needs it. She changed many of us for the better. We will do what we can to honour her memory, to celebrate the good times, and to carry on what she stood for.

    We will never forget her.
