The formula for
Drama.

So, I recently came back to #animeleague
after a year or so out. Now, those of you who remember the glory days when I
was an Op will remember that I was a grumpy fuck. I mean, I was really really grumpy. I’m finally ready to tell you why.
Internet
drama.
I
fucking
hate internet drama. There is nothing more stupid, time consuming and utterly
pointless as internet drama. However, I’m the kind of person that loves
to watch it, hey! I’ll even fan the flames a little bit if I feel the
urge. But in my years of observing the drama, I’ve learned how it works,
especially on Animeleague. I’ve even worked out
a timeline that never seems to fail when it comes to e-drama.
Someone will break up
with someone else, or make a statement that is taken the wrong way. People will
hear about it, take sides and all hell will break loose, each side insisting
they are right while twisting the facts to their own means. This will carry on
for days, sometimes weeks, spilling over into chat, LJ, MySpace,
whatever.
Then, eventually, one
person will admit to something, that they made it up or that they twisted
something a little to make it sound better. Everything will then be okay in
internet land for a while until it all starts again.
Participating in drama
is one thing really, but when you look at it like this, you really do begin to realise just how pointless it is. I admit it, I’ve
caused and participated in my fair share of drama, and at the time I thought I
was being right. I really wasn’t, I was just another person in another
internet drama.
So, to solve this
problem of boring internet drama, I propose something to you, people of the
great internets. Chill out. Either that or start drama over something original!
Breakup dramas are so last year, darling.
So what’s the point,
you ask?
Stop the fucking drama.
There is nothing more pointless than getting yourself worked up over why so and
so said this to you or who send which chat logs to someone else. Who cares? Really? It’s all going to be over in a week, so sit
the fuck down, chill out and just observe. It’s far more entertaining and
you don’t get your name dragged through the mud in the process. Everyone
wins! Well, except maybe those participating in the drama, but if they put this
shit out in the open, why shouldn’t people mock it? It’s the only
way to teach them, I say!

I have been asked, at this very last minute, to write a
rant. A rant about anything internet related, and quite fortunately, this is
where I rock. Before I get started, let me just point out, that although I hold
these opinions, I do not have any personal feelings toward any of the people
described in this rant, and whether they act this way or not, I do not hold it
against them. Also, these opinions are mine, and mine alone, and are in no way
supported by AnimeLeague, so don't complain to FreeSaiyan if you don't like it.
When it comes to
wandering the internet, especially when posting on forums, and ESPECIALLY when
posting on forums targeted at a teenage audience, you're bound to run into a
few stereotypes. Now, everyoen can argue 'til the
cows come home that stereotypes are BADBADBAD, but quite honestly, they were
originated for a reason, and still hold true a lot of the time. Examples? Alright then, that's what I'm here for.
If any of you have
noticed at all, there is an incredibly LARGE number of
young persons (ages 13-17) who hold incredibly strong and biased opinions on
EVERYTHING. they're the rebels of this generation;
firmly clinging to The DaVinci Code as their bible
while pushing up their false plastic frames and kicking off their Converse. I'm
not talking about the Hot Topic kids... no. These are the ones who look down on
the Hot Topic kids. The ones who preach to the world
"Down with the man! Christianity is a lie! There is no God!"
with absolutely nothing ot
back it up, and typically... no friends.
Well, no, I correct
myself. They have plenty of friends. And by friends I mean admirers who salute
and worship them as intellectuals, not realizing that everything their idol
knows can be attributed to Dan Brown and Ayn Rand (if
they're lucky). They never bother to research their facts. Instead, what they
do is accept everything that's contradictory to the way they've been taght and raised, and accept the contradictions as the REAL
truth, utterly ignoring the facts.
These are also the
people who preach to the world about being objective, and looking at the
straight facts, when really, they don't even know where to FIND the real facts.
It's called a library, ladies. Make use of the reference section, and back AWAY
from the fiction, please.
Now, you may be
wondering, how exactly does this relate to the internet,
or
I left GD because of
these people, because, quite honestly, there is just no debate in them. They're
nothing more than broken records, and once you realize that, there's no point
in talking to them about anything anymore, because you can actually PREDICT
what they'll say next.
Try to find them out
yourselves, and actually make a game of it. They're incredibly easy to find,
once you know what to look for. Ask them what they think of Mary Magdalene, and
watch their tempers flare as they vehemently defend their position that she was
Jesus' wife. See how big you can make that anime-esque
vein in their forhead, too (just don't try it here on
the forums, as that's called baiting ~_^).

There are many things in this world that people have to
complain about; especially in Animeleague, but the
one issue that really pisses me off is noobs. From
the forums to the chat room, Newbies have wrecked the
fun for all us other ALers. Now, some of them, I
don’t mind because after a while, some get with the program and learn how
to properly use a forum. This rant, newbies who were
just addressed, is not about you.
I’m talking about
the newbies, who after maybe two months or so (the
average time most noobs get with the program) are
still speaking in l33t sp3@k. Now, I don’t know about you, but I hate it
when I get to said noob’s post, I see: OMFG!!! InUyashA iS teh
HAWT!!! Every time a person reads those posts, their I.Q. level drops about
twenty points.
Then there are the noobs, who, for some reason are addicted to spam. Now
I’m okay with this for the initial noob
orientation months, but after that third month, it’s just plain ass
annoying. First off, if you want your time enjoyable here on
Finally, the noobs that think they run the entire forum. These guys have
given me the most grief. Now, I’ve been a forum assistant on and off, so
I can sort of relate with the higher-ups of the staff. Now, these guys stroll
into places, all happy go lucky, thinking the rules don’t apply to them.
The moment they start posting, they ridicule EVERYTHING ON ANIMELEAGUE!!!! Some
clean up their ‘tudes, but others will
eternally be doing crap like that.
Take Rindo
Ruiki (name changed for benefit of poster, but anyone
with half a brain should know who I’m referring to). Rindo
was a girl, who for some reason, had a personal
vendetta against this place. She seemed to attack anyone and everyone that had
a view that was different from hers. She was banned several times, but without
fail, when she returned, she would go back to attacking everyone. I never
personally dealt with her, but I’ve seen some of her posts (whoo boy) and they weren’t pretty. She
didn’t’ give a damn about the other posters, and CERTAINLY
didn’t give a damn about the staff.
Fortunately, most
posters don’t get as bad as poor Rindo. Most
just talk back to the staff and those trying to keep them from trouble, but
some of the things they have said. All I can say is “Damn.” Just a word to the wise newbies.
If you want to stay here longer than a week, try to be respectful to others.
